Rembrandt : His Life, His Work, His Time

Rate this book
Gorgeous. 612 illustrations, including 109 hand-tipped plates in full color. This book is clean and bright, with no creases, no tears, and no markings. The price-clipped dustjacket has two tears to the spine, a creased tear to the rear panel, and light wear to the edges and corners, else it's also clean and bright.

The background information is very wide and interesting. Not only praises but also critical observation of the man and his short comings.

At times unrelated information, on someone who life’s at the same time was married to someone else etc. Can’t see the link with the painter and his arts.

Real short coming for me is that majority of pictures are in black and white. The colours and subtle work is described but we can only see a very dark black and white picture. Must have something to do with costs but that kind a ruined the experience for me.
Still info was good but I ll now move onto more recent work that has more colour pictures.

Really good book on the life of Rembrandt and a glimpse of what it would have been like to live in Amsterdam in the 17th Century. Lots of excellent full color (and large!) pictures but very little with regards to Rembrandt's method.
