Her Own Wild Winds

Rate this book
For most of her life, GENEVIEVE GEORGET has struggled to navigate the brokenness that comes with being human---broken heart, broken past, broken sense of self. Constantly fighting to find a path to the other side of the pain, it wasn't until she started writing---putting words on paper and seeing her story evolve that she found the light she so desperately sought.

Writing helped make sense of the hurt and find purpose in the struggle. It helped her let go of the darkness that gripped her heart and make room for something new.

Writing healed her.

For the past ten years, Gen has sat before a simple piece of paper to find her way through marriage, family, parenting, anxiety, faith and everything in between. The act of writing is what helped her put the fragmented pieces of herself back together.

Her Own Wild Winds is those pieces in a collection of experiences, stories and lessons gathered over time that, together, create a life.

She could tell you that this book is about love and loss and joy and pain. But if she's being completely honest (which is what she does best), it's about a bunch of words that set her free. It's not a book about how she healed; it's the actual book in which she healed.

It's a story about a book that saved it's writer.

An Awakening

I first read Genevieve in Facebook posts. Her words blew me away. How could someone write the words from my heart with such Grace and understanding? As the months progressed everyone else following her wanted to know the same thing. It was an awakening to realize so many others felt the same way.

After what seemed like years, Her Own Wild Winds was published. I was in the midst of writing my own book so decided not to read hers until I had time to focus on it. I'm so glad I did.

This book filled me with hope for all of us following Genevieve. We are enough. We are together on this journey and together we are more than enough. Thank you for such beautiful words put together so eloquently.

I absolutely love the way Genevieve writes. It is touching and moving and insane relatable. She gives a literal translation from my thoughts and feelings to words.
The way she touches subtle nuances of her life to make us reflect on the bigger picture and coming out braver and stronger, she makes me feel empowered with each of her anecdotes.
Her books are closest to my heart!

Such an absurdly beautiful memoir! Gen is an incredibly talented writer and takes you on a journey through her life in this heart wrenching story. There are so many life lessons in this story... and so many times I cried while reading.

Highly recommend this book to anyone going through big life changes, or to anyone who loves powerful memoirs!!

Everything Genevieve writes is almost me.

I relate to her so much. She puts my words and feelings that I can't sort down on paper. It's relieving.

There is a genre of writing amongst some conservative Christian women that is Oprahesque in its obsession with'being authentic' but which translates to me as being utterly self obsessed. And that self obsession and sharing stories like how they recovered from loss with a trip to Italy, seems to help readers dealing with their own self obsessions. The writer then becomes a bit of a guru to conservative Christian women. Not bad, just interesting. Very me me me me me. Her viral story was about how she felt fake for not telling her barista about her emotional pain. Would the barista have wanted to have that conversation? The writing style is very 'hey guys, the thing is ...' her fb page is still filled with her self discovery and her own inspirational quotes. Have we as women not moved beyond this self obsesses pablum? I will say her photography is excellent but seems she is giving that up to write. Women, we can do better.

MUST READ!!! I rarely read books again, but this one is back on the reread this asap. It's more than a book, I've made a friend. This book has woven its way into my journey. It's beautifully written and full of the vulnerability that comes with a humble honesty that's finding its way. Grab a hot beverage, a cozy blanket and let the sunshine into your soul. This book won't disappoint.

An incredible read for any human being who has lived in real life. Genevieve has put poetically into words the struggle of living by teaching that we only struggle alone if we chose, but if we can be brave enough to let the world in, we can all struggle together.

Beautiful book, each chapter was a new insight into Genevieve's experience and words of wisdom. A very inviting read and a look into yourself, to not judge yourself so harshly. Thank you for your story.
