James Baker has earned a starting wide receiver spot at Churchill High in San Antonio. During an early scrimmage, he takes a blow to the head. He doesn't want to lose his starting spot, so he keeps his concussion hidden from everyone in his life. James is determined to keep playing at all costs--but is being on the field ever more important than his health? San Antonio is from Texas Fridays, an EPIC Press series.
Personal Response: This the best book that I have read all year. It is very helpful with all the tips and tactics that it gives. Any way you can fish a musky is in this book and gives you a bunch of tips. I rate this book five out of five stars because of how helpful and interesting it is.
Plot Summary: This book, the Musky Mastery has the techniques of the top musky guides in the world. This book has 11 chapters and each of them is a different tactic used by a different angler. The guy who wrote this book, Steve Heiting, went fishing with each one of these anglers and has seen how each one catches muskies differently. The 11 guys he went fishing with were George Langley, Gene Curtis, Roger Sabota, Pete Maina, Dick Moore, Joe Bucher, Brian Long, Dave Dorazio, Bruce Shumway, Peter Hanupt, and Steve Herbeck. The 11 different tactics that he learns were Fly Fishing, Jigs and Reapers, Surface Baits, Twitching, Bucktails, Night fishing Trolling, Jerk Baits, Vertical Jigging, Crankbaits, and Sucker fishing. Each one of these techniques all has there very own style on how to do it. They are really easy to learn and is very fun to do.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to anyone that loves fishing or likes being outdoors. This book has many tips and tactics to try and catch a musky. They are very helpful and tells you everything you need to know.
Personal Response: Texas Fridays San Antonio has been an interesting book to read. The book was about a high school football player in his senior year. This book never got boring, and once you finished one chapter, you couldn't help but start the next.
Plot Summary: The main character was named James, but people call him Baker because that's his last name. Baker was a senior this year which meant it was his last year in football as a high schooler. He trained all summer just to get the starting spot on varsity. Once the season started Baker got hit hard in the head, so he had to sit out for the rest of the game. Baker was up and back at it again at the next game. Towards the end of the season, the team was looking good so good that they were most likely going to the playoffs. Baker got hit in the head during the games and went in a coma, that was the end of his season.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to anyone who likes football. If you like to hear a good story about a kid that works hard this is it. If you're looking for a densely short story about relationships and football this is the book to read.
Personal Response: I enjoyed this book because it stuck to football, unlike many of the other books in this series. I also really liked it because it was based around a receiver, my favorite position. The plot line was really easy to follow and it was a very exciting book.
Plot Summary: The book starts off with a senior in high school, James Baker. Throughout his high school football career he is unnoticed, until this year. He worked out all summer and is faster and stronger than he had ever been. All of this hard work earns him the starting role at inside receiver. He starts good and gets better in just that week of practice. The coach takes notice of all the work he put in and the plays that he was making. He was very excited to see how he would preform in the scrimmage the next week. Baker gets off to a hot start, but his hamstring gets tight. He goes to make a move and is second late and has to jump for the ball. The safety came up and drilled him, helmet to helmet. Baker gets knocked out and is out the rest of the game. He has symptoms of a concussion all that weekend, but didn't feel it after that. Baker had a great season up to this point, but had a very hard game coming up. He again gets off to a hot start, his best of the year. On the next play they were going to go back to a crossing route, a play that had worked all day. The quarterback, Ripley, led Baker just a little too much and made him dive a little. He middle linebacker came up and hit him right under his helmet. Baker is rushed to the hospital, but doesn't wake up during the book. He stays unconscious for 8 days.
Character Development: Baker grows from being a backup all of his high school career to being the starting receiver. He gets bigger and stronger throughout the book. He gets to many head injures in the season and doesn't wake up again in the book.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to high school students who like football. The plot is easy to follow and has a lot of twists in it. Over all, this book was a very good read.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars because the story is really good. There are a lot of turning points in the story and times when you feel like you can't put the book down. The ending was bad but other than that and the ending hospital scene this book was very good
The thing I liked about this book is that there is time for the plot to develop the author just doesn't jump right into the climax. The other thing that I like is the main character isn't a jock, he is really good at football but isn't an ego typical person. The thing I didn't like about the book was the end, I think what the author was trying to get across is that the main character dies, but it isn't very clear. On top of the horrible ending, I feel that the hospital scene could have been a bit shorter, there was a lot of sitting around and no one doing anything.
This book surprised me a lot. There is so many things you don’t expect the main character to do which is why I loved this book so much, there are so many turns and changes throughout the book that make it interesting for me usually when you read books of this genre they are generic and you can guess the ending, but in this one I really got to know that character and it was less focused about football but more on the personality’s of different characters this was huge because I really felt the emotions and cared about what happened to the main character, James Baker.
I think the book was overall pretty good with a lot of suspense and action packed football . One takeaway from the book however was I didn't like the ending at all . But overall the book didn't disappoint me and if you enjoy the sport of football this would be a very good book for you . Its not all about football either though there is a lot of other things to and the book leaves a lot of little messages about working hard and accomplishing your goals .
I'm for any book that focuses on concussion awareness. San Antonio tells Baker's story in the Texas Fridays series. The writing style has an easy cadence for reluctant readers. The football terminology and details of plays will appeal to teen players. Quick, fast read dealing with an important topic.
This book is one of the best book by this author. I was not very satisfied with the ending because it was a huge cliff hanger and it was never explained where he was and why he is now in a new city. My favorite part of this book was the story. My least favorite part of the book was the end.
I really like this book and how he only focus on football and it helps and it really makes you feel like your right next to him. I rate this book 5 out of 5.
