Jack H. Hexter (who published as J.H. Hexter) received his doctorate from Harvard and later taught at Yale and Washington University (St. Louis), specializing in Tudor history and seventeenth century British history, as well as historiography.
Hexter's 'splitter' mentality is on display. The essays here are rather technical and linguistic in nature. I suspect they may be relevant only to advanced scholars in political philosophy. There is more here on Thomas More than Machiavelli.
