Another bk that makes me lament the short life of the excellent "pod books". This is a "place" "taken out of place" - wch is the norm for the form in wch I've encountered this work. It appears (from an on-line search) that all parts of PLACE might be collected together in one bk - a review of wch states: "Hidden water courses under London are a theme of Place, as is coercion into oppressive work structures".

This part begins:

"place thirty-two .4 as preface

Pope Barberini had the birds killed in the
Vatican gardens because they disturbed him

saying Galileo would infringe the right of
God to run the universe by miracle rather
than by natural law"

Whenever I retrospectively scan thru these bks I get a sense of notes taken re an immense sense of place, notes from the hot air balloon, from looking thru the microscope, from reading the newspaper, from discussions w/ friends & fellow scholars; words typed & meticulously scratched out to be replaced by the handwritten. A work in progress b/c there is no closure for it. There's always a new take.
