This was a simple, enjoyable, different book! I loved reading about Roy, Florida, Beatrice (my mother's name) and even Dana. I am so glad they worked for the OWLS!

This is a young adult book. I have enjoyed some of Hiaasen's crazy funny adult books but this was different. It is narrated by a middle school boy who moves around a lot due to his father's job. I love stories narrated by kids. Such a fresh perspective and reminder to me that often adults have NO IDEA what is going on in the lives of their children.

Hoot is about 3 boys in Florida, Roy Mullet Fingers and Gerrett, and a bad enemy, who join an effort to stop the construction of a pancake house that would destroy a colony of burrowing owls who live on the site. after a lot of fighting and trying as hard as they could, they finally were able to stop construction on the pancake house.

Roy is the new kid at school and spends his time trying to avoid the bully and pining for his old home in Montana. Of course he makes a friend and joins her in an effort to save burrowing owls from the dastardly developer. A good read for anyone although aimed at the 10-13 year old, I think. Hiaasen does not talk down to his audience, so an adult can read this and still appreciate the whole experience.

Awesome book, has different kinds of genres. Mystery, excitement, and is page turning book. I can not express how well the author puts the book together using different characters' perspectives. It also has s hint of mastery every now and then. I recommend this book to anyone who likes it when people stand up for what they believe.

This book was hillarious and gross. The part where there was a warning sign about buffalo's in a park, that was the best. The book is a hoot! Made me laugh out a lot.
