How to make your own kinetics

If you were to step into an art gallery full of kinetics you would have quite a shock. All the paintings and sculpture would be moving or would seem to be moving as you walked past them. There would be color, light, sound and movement everywhere.

This book tells you how to make some exciting kinetic effects for yourself. There are simple step-by-step instructions and clear diagrams for everything from the Prison Bars to the Feely Box.

This book is a series of projects. I found the book in the adult art section of our public library. It simply lists projects without any discussion of kinetics sculpture in the art world. While it is to the point and concise, I was looking for something more. On the plus side, it offers ideas without trying to influence the creative output. I think it is most useful as a project book for teachers and children ages 10 to 14.

Alexander Calder it is not, yet for kids it introduces some basic ideas involving movement in simple art projects.
