Excellent view of Communist and post-Communist Poland by a man who was in the underground resistance in the former and the undersecretary of Defense in the latter. Excellent stories of his uncle during the War. Candid analysis of current Poland and the leadership of free Poland after the lifting of the Iron Curtain. Wonderful love for the lost culture of Poland and the desire to bring it back. A must read for those who love Poland and see it as the possible salvation of Western Civilization in todays world.

The book was promising in the beginning. It was interesting to read about the author's childhood and I would have loved to have read more about the renovation of the house instead of its diatribe into politics.
