Theoretical Physics (Springer) #1

Theoretical Physics 1: Classical Mechanics

Rate this book

For the most part the treatment of the subject matter is comprehensive, however his treatment of tensors is poor and very inadequate for a theoretical physics text book. The writing is choppy. Its not an easy read even if you are already well educated in physics. The author also uses some unconventional mathematical notation through out the entire series. The mathematical foundations sections should provide references to specialized texts on the subject matter that have been written by mathematicians. There are a lot of very poor textbooks on calculus, probability, linear algebra, and topology. A series as ambitious as Herr Professor Doktor Nolting's should provide references to first rate texts on these subjects in order to help students avoid the pitfalls of bad math books.
