Narcotic Daydreams

Rate this book
Tom Marshall was never one of the good guys. Even back when he was a cop, he was just another member of an utterly corrupt force. He has spent the last five years working at a local towing company run by a small time mafia boss and drinking his life away in an ever downward spiral. When one of his buddies asks him to look for his missing girlfriend, Tom takes a chance and decides to try doing the right thing for a change. The trail this search leads him down makes him question whether he wants to be the kind of guy who finds lost girls, or the kind of guy who makes them disappear.

"Narcotic Daydreams is a gritty, first-person, crime thriller. It doesn't get much better than this." -- M.R. Mathias

Excellent crime drama, well written and entertaining, could not put the book down. More action in the first 10 pages than many books have in the whole story. Would be worth mentioning that it had some really graphic violence, it makes sense in a crime drama, but thought it was worth a warning. Really looking forward to hearing more from Matt Broadway.

Matt Broadway's world is brutal and he doesn't shy away from the darkest aspects of mafia reality. As a fan of gritty crime fiction, I enjoyed the non-filtered, unapologetic plot and characters.

I discovered the author, Matt Broadway, on an online discussion post about "Wanting readers to believe anything could happen on the next page." After a very brief discussion, I was intrigued enough to find his debut novel, Narcotic Daydreams, and give it a read.
I'm including this because of how Narcotic Daydreams nearly fractured my jaw from its clever twists and surprises. Between jaw-dropping action and uncovering secrets, Narcotic Daydreams is a fast-paced book that will keep you on your toes.

Tom Marshall is a truly flawed individual with, dare I say, no redeemable qualities. He was a bad cop turned into an alcoholic, mafia member. While not exactly the worst type of father, certainly a neglectful one. His relationship with his daughter was absolutely fascinating to me and I really wanted more on that dynamic. At times it was baffling on why his daughter still continues to love him, but I also found this entirely too relatable. As horrible as he can be, I couldn't read enough of Tom Marshall.
