Crushed & Claimed (Evermore Series 1 & 2) by Andrea Smith
4 stars!!!

“I care about Seth. I wouldn’t do anything to screw up his life, no matter how bad mine is right now.”

Crushed and Claimed are the first two books in a four-part series and are novella in size. Both these books were quick reads for me, especially as I was drawn into the story from the get go and couldn’t turn the pages quick enough to see what life had in store for Neely Evans. This series is a coming of age story and follows Neely from teenager to adulthood.

Crushed starts as Neely’s life is uprooted and she has to move from her roots in Tennessee to California for her father’s job. Her father is a lawyer and is now specialising in Entertainment so he has to go to where the actors and actresses are, so Malibu it was. Neely feels incredibly out of place, from Tennessee to Malibu is a culture shock and she struggles to fit in, yet once she makes a friend, Malibu doesn’t seem that bad after all.

“As beautiful and golden as California was – and is, I ached for the rolling hills, lazy creeks, and dirt roads of Tennessee. I felt like I would never fit in here. But I did.”

Seth Drake is the boy next door, he is a year older than Neely and these two strike up an incredible friendship, they truly were inseparable. As Neely’s home life shatters due to her father working long hours and her mother seeking solace at the bottom of a bottle, Seth’s family become her adopted one and the Drake’s become the only people that she can rely on. As these two get older though, those lines of friendship blur and these two cross the line to something more and their reliance on one and other deepens even further.

The relationship between Seth and Neely was adorable, you sensed their attraction, their love for one and other and their chemistry. They were responsible, no matter the temptation and tried their hardest to be what the other needed. So what would happen when life strikes another blow and these two are torn apart?

“I LOVE YOU, NEELY EVANS!”

Neely’s life was about to change for the worse when her cheating father is discovered and Neely’s alcoholic mother makes them up-sticks and move back to Tennessee. They write, they talk but what happens when that all comes to an end and what happens when Neely finally makes it back to Malibu?

Neely is a strong girl, she had to be to become the main carer for a manic depressive and alcoholic mother. She lost her late teens to the bottle and my heart broke for her so many times. Seth was always her anchor and it pained me when interference often caused misunderstandings. There was one particular person I wanted to throttle who seemed to be the one constant in everything that went wrong in Neely’s life.

“I would never waste years of my life getting wasted like Mama had, still allowing herself to be tortured over something that just wasn’t meant to be.”

Now that Seth is following in his mother’s footsteps and is now gracing the TV screen will fame and fortune go to his head, or will he stay true to his roots and his friends? His life has changed in Neely’s absence, will she forever be the past, or will she remain the one that got away?

Andrea Smith stays true to her character’s ages and their dialogue and actions were very representative of their ages, something that is often missed. Their stories are relatable and these two really got under my skin because when they hurt, I hurt. First loves always leave an impression, especially those born from a solid friendship and I cannot wait to see what happens to Neely and Seth going forward. Has too much happened or will these two get the happily ever after they so richly deserve? I cannot wait for Paparazzi!!

Letters and Mysteries

The story is really getting good and picking up steam - in both angst and heat. This continues with Neely in California with her dad and stepmom.

It isn't long before Seth walks into the scene. Things definitely get complicated and he wastes no time in creating a situation where she's again booting him from her life. This time, heartbreak is coupled with shame and anger. I really wish I could biff Seth several times, because his head is so far up his... well, someone needs to help him find air again!

"I hate you Seth Drake! And I regret every minute I ever wasted on liking you, let alone loving you! You are a despicable person! You claimed me last night, but now I'm un-claiming you as a person in my life! Don't you ever come near me again!"

And with that, I whirled back around and ran up the steps. Seth Drake would pay for the way he'd wronged me. That was a promise I made to myself.

-- Neilah Grace "Neely" Evans

This installment has plenty of teenage angst and hormone driven actions. Neely does make some friends and embarks on new adventures - namely college and some... taboo activities, but Seth seems to be stitched into her soul.

UPDATED 10/2022:
I've read and/or listened to this a couple of times now and this series has really stuck with me over the years. Yes, my rating increased. These two... make it to the end of the series and you'll understand. 💔🔥💔😭🤧

Rachelle Williams continues to bring Neely to life with her Southern drawl.

I absolutely LOVED this novella! Claimed, the second book in Andrea Smith's Evermore Serial, picks up about 3 years after Neely left CA to go back to her mother. Well, she is now back in CA to finish out her senior year and what ensues will only leave you wanting more, more, more!!! We flip from past to present throughout, which really adds another dimension to the book and allows for ample background where it matters. We also get some more Seth and Neely! I was shocked at one point and then the ending just blew me away! I cannot wait to see what happens in the next installment, Paparazzi! Well done, Andrea. Love the H and h, love the strength of the h as she comes into her own, and love the cliffhangers you give us in between each book!

Claimed starts right where Crushed left off. Neely is living with her dad and step mom trying to find her way in the world and looking forward to her senior year in high school. She is also trying very hard to get along with her step mom even though she wants to strangle her on a daily basis. Neely is still keeping to herself but when she goes to a beach party she finds a kindred spirit in Jazz and they become fast friends. Things are far from over between her and Seth, but misunderstandings and miscommunication keep these two apart.

I'm really enjoying this series, Neely is a great character and I find myself really relating to the things she is experiencing. It's a hard road when the 'grown-ups' in your life keep mucking things up. Add immature love to the mix and you have quite a conundrum, and this series captures that beautifully. I hope Neely finds her way and I can't wait for the next book!

If you loved Crushed, you will definitely love Claimed!! This picks up where Crushed left off and while it is a short read, Andrea has packed a lot of drama into this one. Through out this one we see Neely go from high school to college, we also see how her relationship with Seth goes in between this time. She transitions between living with her father and stepmother and all those goes on with such grace and strength. I for one can not wait to see what happens next, I am so looking forward to seeing how certain things play out and just what a certain person is up to.

I'm so in love with this series and so thankful to Andrea Smith for giving them to me for an honest review!!

This is a fast paced young beautiful love romance. Neely Evans is living with her father and his wife in Malibu. Her mother is in rehab in Tennessee where she is living.
Seth, her former boyfriend, first love is studying in New York, but his parents live close to Neely. While on her father's private beach she is there admire the sky, the stars, she hears Seth and his friends. She turns to leave, but he stops her and they then share an encounter that will her with more wounds to heal.

Neely is a strong young lady and she is focused on her future. After graduating high school she and Jazz plan on sharing rent for college. But, while on spring break she goes to Tennessee to visit her mother with her grandmother. Her mother has been suffering from alcohol abuse due to her depression. While at her grandparents home she goes through some of her and her mothers things. She discovers a bunch of unread letters to her from Seth a few years back when she had to leave Malibu with her mother. One of the letters made cry, it was so beautiful, where he declares his feelings for her, "I LOVE YOU, NEELY EVANS"!!

Such a love story of young and very complicated love. That was so well and tastefully written. I enjoyed listening to this young love romance come to life. Now on to Book 3, and I really don't want this sweet romance to end! Thank you Andrea Smith!!

Review:
Story: I was so invested in the first book that I had to immediately dived into the second. I probably would have read all four in one sitting if I could have. It's just such a uniquely beautiful story. It's not something I thought I would like. I can't lie. There are parts of it I don't care for. I'm weird though. I find that the things that make me uncomfortable with romances are things that most people really enjoy.
Characters: Neely finds herself back home for her senior year of school. She has a falling out with her mother for her decision. She struggles to face her new life.
Critiques: None
Narration: I also give this a four-star rating. I loved the narration, but I can't think of anything that would make it remarkable or memorable. Like the first book, the narration kept me engaged in the story. That's good enough for me.
Final Thoughts: I still can't understand how such a silly sappy romance book sucked me in and made me feel like I was right there with all of the characters. It's just mind blowing to me. I'm so glad that I came across this series. I can't even begin to explain how beautiful it is. Which is why I feel like anybody who is interested in the genre should read it for themselves.

The second book in Andrea Smith's "Evermore" series, "Claimed" didn't disappoint. I loved the first, and the second was just as good as the first.

I must admit that I'm not the "romantic" sort and never read so many romance books as I have since I started reading Andrea Smith's work, but that is a testament to her writing. Smith's writing sucks you in. It is challenging to put the book down. Maybe Smith's writing is bringing me around toward romance. Perhaps it is the way I can identify with the characters that suck me in. If reading her books can do this for me, then I must say that these books in the Evermore series are for everyone.

This book is compact yet integral to the story. It isn't surprising there are so many issues for Neely to overcome. Neely's encounters will have you laughing and cringing at the same time. The pace is perfect. It is easy to follow the time jumps. I highly recommend that people add this to their 2024 reading list.

After a summer with her grandparents and mother in Tennesse, Neely is set to go back to school in California. It's about time! Her mother has been spiraling downward and continues to berate her daughter, but she has agreed to get help in a rehab center.  Now Neely's back in California, living with her father and self-centered stepmother as they celebrate Christmas. t's been quite some time since Neely has seen or talked to Seth, but it was her choice to go back to Tennesee without a word. Her insecurities got the better of her and so did Seth's mother when she warned her not to get too close to her son. Neely left him a letter, but she also left her promise ring behind. When they reconnect, they are so different in many ways, but still the same in others. I listened with apprehension as she met his friends at a New Year's party he arranged and it broke my heart. This is an angst-filled story that gives you hope but takes it away just as quickly. But I still hold out hope for Neely and Seth.

Claimed is the second book in the ( Evermore Series) by Andrea Smith ,and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this great story. Ms Smith has given us a story with characters that will get under your skin right from the start, and that has a story that some will be able to relate to and when they hurt we will hurt also. But we all can agree that first loves all leave an impression with us. Ms Smith always stay true with her characters with age and dialogue and action that is very representative well with their age. Claimed start right off what where Crushed lefted off. Neely is living with her dad and her stepmother well she tries to find her way in this big world ,and she's totally looking forward to her senior year of high school .She's is trying so hard too get along with her stepmother ,even though she still would like to strangle her on a regular basics. And she's learned just how deceitful her stepmother can really be. But Neely still stay to herself until she meets the hot and sexy Jazz at at a beach party and right off she feels like their a kindred spirits and they soon become best friends .But things between her and Seth is far from beginning over, but with some misunderstanding and miscommunication between them is what is keeping them apart. I could tell you more about these amazing characters but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this amazing story ,you won't be disappointed.

This book is the second in the Evermore series. It picks up where Crush ends. Neely is becoming an adult. She survived her teen years with much tormoil. She is learning that life is hard but she will survive. She learns how deceitful her step-mother can be and is thrown back into dealing with Seth, who she can't get over but hates at the same time. This book is packed with heartache and drama. Thanks, Andrea for sharing Neely's story.

The second book in the series. We have Neely living with her father and step mother. Her mother is in rehab. She is a senior in high school and she still thinks about Seth. Seth sees her on the beach and they talk and Neely knows she still loves Seth. New Years comes and Seth is over her house with Champagne. After being let down again by someone she loves she gets ready for college where she is going to be a roommate with Jazzy that she meet thru Seth. Great addition to the series.

ANDREA SMITH CERTAINLY KNOWS HOW TO WRITE YA STORIES

Claimed is the second of four in her Evermore Series. She certainly has "upped the anti" with this one. I'm so pleased that I decided to continue with this series as I'm really impressed with where she is taking this one.

Claimed picks up exactly where Crush finished. Neely is still living with her father and her step-mother, a woman she abhors. Their relationship has not improved at all, it is made even worse by the fact that she is manipulated by her Step-mother into doing something that she really doesn't want to do.

Her relationship with Seth went from bad to worse after moving back to Tennessee. She still pines for him, the the contact has been next to zero, even though she is now back in California. A chance meeting on the beach soon changes that. But once again she is let down by the person she loves the most.

One of the best occurrences in Neely's life is meeting up with Jazzy, who becomes her new best friend - something she desperately needed in her life. I love Neely, she is the ordinary girl who struggles through life, but always manages to end out on top of things.

Andrea Smith, another wonderful book. You never cease to amaze me with the characters that you write about. I look forward to reading the next installment in this series.

Claimed by Andrea Smith is the second book in the Evermore series. The books are not written as full length novels, but rather as novellas. Almost like episodes. This is a coming of age story, that tells about innocence and the loss of it. The book also deals well with emotions that a young woman would experience during this time in her life.
Neilah Evans, or Neely, is a young woman who is forced to move back across the country to live with her father after an issue with her mother. She struggles to make friends and doesn't seem to fit in anywhere.

Seth Drake, he typical boy next door. He wants to follow in his mother's footsteps, she says he has talent. Neely becomes close to his family and essentially adopts them as her own.

Neely has had to deal with a mother who is dealing with her own deck of issues. She relies on Seth to anchor her but she is often misunderstood. Seth begins to follow in his mother's footsteps and is on television. Will they be able to stay true to one another?

I did love that Andrea Smith kept the story appropriate for the characters ages. I look forward to the next book.

This book picks up right where Book 1 left off. Neely and Seth continue to grow up and apart. Living with her Dad and Stepmother, Neely is doing her best to get along with everyone while keeping her distance from Seth. After a run in on the beach with Seth, Neely must come to terms with the feelings she still has for him. Despite Seth's reassurances that he still cares, Neely soon finds him breaking her heart. The surprise character of this book was Jazzy. Neely and Jazzy meet at a get together that Seth is having and soon become best friends. This book follows Neely as she finishes high school and enters college. Andrea Smith has keep the characters true to their age and realistic. I am absolutely loving this series and looking forward to reading the next book!

With heart hurting and worrying about lovely Neely I started this book.

It was devoured in no time! I was desperate to find out what happened to Neely and Seth. Would he move on and forget his first love? Would she pine for him?

Pretty little Tennessee is back. My heart is pounding! Is Seth going to claim her as his? Oh my goodness! If Crushed was all sweet and love, Claimed gets a little bit raunchier - remember our couple are still young.

Heart not fixed yet but hopes are still flying high. On a side note, I still don't like stepmother dearest! Boo and hiss!

Bring on the paps!

This book starts where Crushed ended. I like Neely and how she is handling herself under extreme circumstances. I don't like how her mother is putting everything on her shoulders. The fact that she is standing up for her dreams gets two thumbs up from me. I like that she is trying to do the right thing with Seth, not so sure it's the best way. I really don't like Seth he is very selfish. As this story progress things are coming to light that may explain why Seth is like he is with Neely. If you don't like young drama then I would not recommend. Sometimes this is hard to read because is goes back and forth from past to present.

Nelly is back in California after enduring several years of turmoil living with her mother. Her dad is remarried and she doesn’t like Tiffany Blume, the woman that destroyed her family. Seth is away in New York at school but when he returns home, can these two find they love they once shared? Or are the hurts to deep from their separation? The angst and drama is on the rise as Nelly and Seth navigate the waters of growing up.

Seth And Neely's Angsty Story Places A Wholesome Southern Teenage Beauty In The Midst Of The Next Generation Of The Hollywood Elite.

This is the second book in the four part Evermore series. The first part tells the story of the friendship formed between young Neely and her Malibu neighbor Seth when her family moves from Tennessee. The pair becomes best friends for years and finally transition to boyfriend and girlfriend when she is fifteen and he is sixteen. Neely wants to be an artist and enjoys painting, and Seth wants to follow in his mother's footsteps to become an actor. But when her father's affair hits the tabloids, Neely's mother returns to Tennessee, taking Neely with her. The pair keeps in touch until she breaks up with him during her one and only visit before he leaves for college in New York. Seth had wanted more from her than she was ready to give, and when his mother shared her own concerns about Neely and the relationship, Neely knew it was best they not make promises.

In this book, Neely has returned to Malibu two years later. Her mother is finally getting the help she needs for her alcoholism, so Neely is finishing high school in California. Living with her father's mistress-turned-wife proves to be a challenge, but Neely is a survivor and makes it work. She turns to her artwork once again, the only thing that gives her purpose.

After using her new camera to take pictures on the beach on New Year's Eve, Neely tries but doesn't escape Seth's notice. She had heard his family was out of town and thought it was safe. An awkward exchange ends quickly, but when Seth shows up drunk later that evening, he doesn't seem interested in discussing the past.

Neely faces new challenges in this book. She is finally free from the responsibility of taking care of her mother only to be plunged into trying to get along with the woman who stole her father away. But that isnt her only challenge. Neely is by nature sweet and honest, so when Seth returns to her, she doesn't question whether the boy she has been in love with might have ulterior motives for his attentions to her. Neely cannot seem to catch a break, but as she works through her dark times and discovers new facts, she has the support of a new friend to help her through.

Neely is a compelling character. Her feelings come through the pages, and her hardship is deeply felt. Seth's love for her had been so adorable and genuine that it is difficult to see him two years later. The mystery of what happened to him when Neely left begins to unfold, but much remains to be learned.

Seth and Neely's angsty story places a wholesome southern teenage beauty in the midst of the next generation of the Hollywood elite. Despite her father's job in the industry, Neely remains an outsider in a tough environment. The story is well-written. In this story as well as the last, the present story is told as flashbacks fill in the blanks of the past. The plot is somewhat complex. The characters are carefully crafted. They feel genuine. The story is written in first person from Neely's POV. I rate this book 4.5 stars.

“Evermore” Greatness continues! Fantastic Audible Listen🎧

Claimed
Evermore Series, Book 2
By: Andrea Smith
Narrated by: Rachelle Williams

I am loving this series, the characters and storylines are interesting and enjoyable. Andrea Smith brings Neely back to Malibu in the second book of her awesome “Evermore” Series. In her first book “Crushed” Neely had broken things off with Seth, her long time friend turned to lover, she left him a letter with her reasons at the time. She then returned back to Tennessee, living with her Mom. Her Mom’s drinking spiraled out of control and she finally went to rehab and Neely left to go live with her Dad & his girl-friend turned wife, Tiffany. Neely is not a fan of her new step-mother but she is just buying her time until she graduates HS. She hasn’t seen or heard from Seth in a couple of years and does not plan to, but he should be away at college in NYC. Turns out he is home for the holidays and she sees him on the beach, she tries to avoid him but he sees her as wetland they wind up getting together. And what a get together it was! Andrea Smith has a way with words, she masterfully fits a lot of story into this novella sized book. The story is well plotted and captivating, once I started the book I did not want to put it down, I needed to know what was going to happen next. There is no dull moments in this book, there is plenty of drama, angst, some heartfelt moments as well as hot romance. Character development continues, Neely is one of my favorite characters it is great to see her growing as a person. We do not hear much from Seth in this story, but he sure left an impression and not a good one, I will only say he has some explaining to do. I am looking forward to what comes next for Neely these great characters. I am sure Andrea Smith will not disappoint, she never does. Thank you for another awesome story, I hope the rest of the series makes it to Audible soon!

I listened to the Audible edition, Rachelle Williams is a wonderful narrator, she continues to bring these characters to life, giving each their own voice and personality. You can hear how much heart she puts in to her work as she projects the emotions of the characters into her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen🎧

Title: Claimed
Author: Andrea Smith
Format: Audio
Narrator: Rachelle Williams
Genre: YA/NA, second chance (kinda)
Standalone: Nope
Part of a Series: Book 2 (of 4) in Evermore
POV: Neely
Steam Level: Some sexual content but not very graphic (or sexy)
4/5

Claimed is the second book in the Evermore series. It's been a while since I've read/listened to book 1 so I don't remember a lot of details from it. However I just realized that the ebook has a "previously in the series" round up of what happened in book one. Claimed is novella-lengthened and went by really quick. I'm not sure how Andrea Smith will be able to repair Neely and Seth's relationship but there are a few little tidbits that are dropped in to this story that can be seen as preparation for their future. Claimed was almost Neely and Seth's second chance but it got ugly fast and some people won't like Seth's actions in Claimed (I'm not fond of them). Having only Neely's POV makes his betrayal more potent since you don't know what he's thinking or where his mind is at. I look forward to the next two books in this series and to see what happens with Neely and Seth.
