Prior to 1830, science and religion were essentially in agreement. Design and order in the universe were considered evidence for a Supreme Being, each species was considered to have been created separately, and Biblical age for the earth was accepted by science. Though evolution is never mentioned in the scriptures, President Benson has said that the Book of Mormon would give us the power to combat falsehoods in organic evolution. This book is meant to be used as a guide for the reader to determine the truth by applying the principles that are found in the scriptures.
I found the idea of this book appealing, but found it to be full of logical fallacies. First of all, the author seemed to believe that verses of scripture could convince scientists that their arguments are wrong...should have known better than that, right? He thought he was proving something, but the bottom line is that most people who believe in the Book of Mormon already shun evolutionary principles. Likewise, most people who believe in evolution don't believe in the Book of Mormon. You can't convince anyone that evolution is wrong by citing Book of Mormon verses anymore than you can convince me that the Book of Mormon is wrong by having me read a paragraph on evolution. Not only did his arguments lack content and scientific basis, but it was also just poorly written.
