Flood: A Wife for Shem

Rate this book
A Wife for Shem is the story of Noah's Flood through the eyes of a young woman. Merial is torn. She's falling in love with a son of Noah, but her family still lives in the village where Nephilim hunt and evil hides in the shrouds of mists rising from the earth. Can she convince her family to find refuge in the mighty boat, or must they perish in a world condemned? Be swept away in the rising waters. A flood is coming, how will you survive? A Wife for Shem brings the Biblical story to life. What was the world like before the flood? How did Noah's family survive on a boat filled with animals? What was it like, after the flood, in a world completely changed? A little faith can carry you a long way, but is it enough when where you land isn't anything like you thought?

I'm always delighted to read a good Biblical novel, and this one is that. The bonus is the bit of romance thrown in. I'm giving it four big stars.

Probably a majority of the people in the modern world have heard about the flood story--you know, Noah and the Arc. The whole story occupies only a little over four chapters in the Bible, but Laurie Boulden has fleshed out Noah and his family just beautifully, maintaining the accuracy of the Bible. Their personalities, with all the weaknesses and flaws, are there. I found it easy to get lost in her story, even though I've read the Bible version a bunch of times. I highly recommend Flood.

It's available from Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Go for it.

I received a free copy from the author of this book, but as usual my opinions are mine alone.

Flood

Very informative and it feels like a personal journey that each person should take. The wonders of God never change only evil rides through humanity as furiously as in ancient times.

This was a fun book to read about the Biblical flood. It starts out a bit slow with Merial in a difficult family situation but picks up when she joins up with Noah and his family. The descriptions of life in this time period reminded me of Clan of the Cave Bear books.

Touring the ark, the preparation to leave and actual flood was where the story was the most fun and interesting. The romance between Merial and Shem was sweet. The other 2 sons had wives already one of them being Merial's sister.. so Shem had to wait for one of the rare women willing to sign up for this endeavor.

The lesson of the book essentially was to wait on God's timing when it comes to decisions about marriage and family and other challenges. Trust in God during a natural disaster or other problems was emphasized as the Flood and aftermath left some of the family shaky in their faith which is understandable. Fun book..well worth the read. Better than the Noah movie.
