Grandpa Went to Heaven by Amber Richards What I like about this book are many things. Author explains to the parents at the end what to focus on and not make things complicated for young children. Pictures with words are easy to understand with things the young children is familiar with. Reassuring that this is one thing you don't have to go overboard on with the recent death of your loved one.
Ten stars would be better than five for this marvellous book. Provided parents/carers of young children read the notes from the author and think about them before reading it to a child, it can be a very personal story applied to the death of any loved one. The picture of heaven, and continued life on Earth, is appealing, and Amber Richards’ advice is sound.
The kindest gift anyone can give a bereaved family with young children
This is a short book that takes a hard subject and gives some answers and some help for those grieving. I think this is a great book for parents and grandparents to read so they can help others deal with the hard subject of losing a loved one. The information explains how this life is a stepping stone to the next.
Very short and simple but effective book to explain the loss of a loved one to a young child. While the book is written from a Christian perspective, it is not preachy but rather a tool to make an abstract concept like death intelligible to a child. I particularly like the author's analogy of the body being like the shell of an egg while the inside of the egg contains the soul and spirit of a person. Children come to see the positive aspects of death as well as the need for those left behind to enjoy earth's treasures in the time allotted to our lives on earth.
The author recommends that the adult reader take time to personalize the ideas of the book for the child she is reading to and let the child guide the conversation while reading the book together. I think this well-written book does an excellent job by serving as a tool to help a child process grief. One of the better books I have read on the subject of death written for young children.
I loved this ebook. It was compassionate, kind and gave real answers from a Christian view to help explain the death of a loved on to a young child. Very tough concept, but done beautifully!
