Not really something to read for pleasure, but an amazing textbook describing the rifle, its ammunition, and its use up to 1923. Whelen offers descriptions and disassembly instructions for many rifles from their introduction in the United States up to the state of the art military rifles at the time, the M1903 and M1917. If you want to know the details of the prone position, this book has it. If you want to know how to build a 200 yard firing range in your back yard, Whelen provides instructions. Want to learn how to lead your future food and hit him on the move? Read the book.

Is this book a page turner? Nope. However, as a piece (no pun intended) of work describing the function and use of the American rifle in incredible detail this book can hold its own against books which are almost a century newer.
