Here, on sumptuously illustrated, colorful pages of traditional art and hieroglyphs, appear the spells, rites, fortune-telling systems, and talismans of the goddess Isis, narrated as if in her own voice. All these techniques are based on authentic sources, and they cover topics close to everyone's health and good fortune; scarab amulets for protection against poisons; incantations to end feuding; and recipes for elixirs of seduction. Even predict the future through the Omen of the Flame, the Egyptian zodiac, and the Cairo Calendar of Auspicious Days. Fact panels and myths provide additional information on the background of each enchantment, and on ancient Egyptian life. A Selection of the One Spirit Book Club.
I like reading books about Egyptology. This one was written differently, not my usual archeological fare. Yet I think the author has this well-researched. What was different was the personification of Isis, her telling her legend in the first person.
What I didn't like about it was the lack of documentation for the pictures and some of the information such as which dynasty did it come from and where it was found.
This had stories I hadn't read yet from the ancient Egyptians. A story about the Book of Thoth and how a Pharoah's son tried to pay for a night with the daughter of a Bast priest which turned into his calling a scribe to change his will. I like to find these Egyptian stories because they're funny.
The identity of Isis is also more narrated here than in other books I've read.
This is a beautiful book. I can't say whether or not it is in any way accurate but it is a lovely Wicca spell book using Egyptian God/desses. I actually found this misshelved in my local bookstore under Egyptology, a section I have never had any interest in perusing before today. I felt this was a sign & that I had to have this book. The pictures are lavish & the spellwork seems sound. I am looking forward to using some of the spells, I can see them going into my BoS. Temple of Isis folk may enjoy this one!
