This book is designed for water-cooled Volkswagen enthusiasts. My main goal is to spread my love for the Volkswagen hobby to anyone that wants to learn. For me, it’s been a lifetime love affair and I am lucky to say that I have turned what I love doing into a career, and it’s awesome. I hope this book will help you to participate in a hobby that has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my life. I’ve also been lucky to surround myself with family and friends who love VWs too. I’ve learned invaluable skills. I get to shape and create things with my hands and feel proud when someone else recognizes my hard work. I get to go to several car shows a year and display my car (the culmination of my hard work), but I also get to create some of my favorite memories with some of the best people. The book is written roughly as a blueprint that I could have handed to 14 year old me to prevent a lot of the mistakes I made (or that others I know made) along the way. I hope any Volkswagen enthusiast will be able to take something of value away from reading this, but it’s primarily directed at newcomers. If you are a brand new or relatively new Volkswagen enthusiast, my goal is to inform and educate you as much as possible so that you can get where you want to go as quickly as possible. Also, I want to arm you with knowledge that will hopefully help to minimize destruction (to your car, your budget or yourself). I want you to be able to enjoy your car and the VW community (and maybe become obsessed – it happens a lot) without wrecking your finances, personal relationships or putting yourself in harm’s way. With all of that said, thanks again for reading and I hope you enjoy it.
This book is a great synopsis of the Volkswagen hobby. If you’re just starting to get into the scene, it’s a good introduction to what’s out there and how to get started. Even if you’re not new to the hobby, it’s a fun read. I especially enjoyed the author’s personal anecdotes.
