Secrets of RVing on SOC. SEC. ( CAN IT BE SO EASY)?
This is a really good book. Very informative and helpful, it delved into several subjects I didn't even think about , such as mail forwarding and taxes and where I planned to use as a domicile state. It also covers things you would expect, how to purchase a used RV , Maintenance, costs, places to boondock etc. The only thing he didn't touch on was in the subject of medical care on the road, maybe because it didn't apply to him was that a great many RVers are veterans and this reliable to get their care from the VA medical system. But overall this was a very informative book.
I was attracted by the title, and I wasn't disappointed. The idea of living in an RV has benching around in my mind since I bought an old school bus (skoolie) and moved my (then!) family from Idaho to Mobile Alabama. I just didn't have any idea that such a life-style was possible. Something caught my eye recently and Ii'm devouring anything I can read about this way of life. I'm 78 years old now and my legs are going out on me. BUT I can dream and you be at know!!
A super practical guide to help you get started on your RV journey, especially if you are planning to go full time.
So full disclosure, I am retired (military not SS) but my husband is not, so when I picked up this book we weren't necessarily planning on selling everything we own and hitting the road. However, this book has a game plan and so much information that is applicable for what we ARE planning which is RVing on a budget!
The chapters are organized in a way that makes sense either way you are planning your RV adventures. I grabbed it as a Kindle read which meant I was able to access those amazingly helpful link with a quick click, for that reason I strongly suggest making it a Kindle read! ( The print and formatting are great so don't fear the font if you don't usually use a digital reader.) However, it could be a great resource in text if you are not ready to take off just yet.
Bottom line, this has a WEALTH of great information and if you plan to RV on a budget it is absolutely worth your time and money to pick it up.
Don't do it. I hated it. It lasted one month. Then I looked for a regular house to buy. If you're a single guy and want to live cheap can fit on a toilet the size of a child potty like to go grocery shopping every few days Don't mind reading without hearing everything or rocking the RV when you go to the bathroom Want to pay lot rent for a month somewhere and it's the price of your old mortgage If your young and want to save money find a RV live on your friend's land of a couple acer If you're going through a rough divorce or homeless situation it could keep you warm and safe But if you have two adults, 1 whinny grown adult child and two dogs. It was purgatory. We sold that RV with two pullouts, a fireplace, A kitchen Island and one bedroom at a huge loss and a big lesson learned. Sometimes the dream is better than the actual reality.
I really enjoy reading the book and learning a little about RV life.
I read this book because I wanted some small idea of what thing would be like. I was not disappointed. The author did give me some things to think about. I t might be something I might enjoy doing. One thing he did not mention was that if you are a military veteran, your medical cost at least for yourself will be a lot less expensive if you served during wartime. I was in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, I served in Thailand for a year. Because of serving during wartime, I am 100% covered medical speaking except for my teeth. I am covered for my hearing, eye glasses and if I am near any VA Hospital, any medical problems that might occur.
My husband and I just started collecting Social security AND just bought our first (used) 5th wheel. This book was very informational with so many additional web sites to visit and videos to watch. We became a member a year ago to an RV group, but after reading this, we will definitely look into at least 1 more.
Any time that I can learn something new about RV'ing from a publication, it's a good thing. Mr. Minchey goes into great detail 'selling you' on what to do to full time RV while on social security. I must admit that he almost closed me. The only objection that he could not overcome is that I am not debt free. Good read.
Great information with lots of resourceful links...
Must read if you are planning to purchase an RV for full time living . Lots of useful tips and resources, especially the links. Straight forward info in an easy to read format. I will be reading this book again and using it as a reference and guide transitioning to full time RVing.
If you are contemplating the full-time - or mostly full-time - RVing life this book is a MUST. Guaranteed you will find information that you never even thought about. He gives a LOT of references, too. There are links to blogs, blogs and you-tube videos for further education. You can’t go wrong with this book.
We are very interested in becoming full time RVer's !!!!!! Thanks so very much for all your information and helpful tips!!!! The websites and YouTube sites you suggested are very helpful!!!! We are making our to do list and plan to hit the road in 2020. Thanks so very much!!!!!!
I am so glad I bought this book. I wanted to read slowly and absorb as much as possible on the way through but I couldn't help myself, I wanted to get to the next chapter and see what was coming. I will re read it now and follow all the links and bookmark websites! Thank you!!
Filled with great information that cuts your research time down while giving you a place to starting point for RVing. As a seasoned camper, this book provides me with a place to find the "details" that we often forget or take time to research. This book is a keeper!
Informative, direct, no nonsense advice to launch your travel and RV lifestyle with practical advice and resources that are affordable and attainable. This is a great book. I've been living remotely on my sailboat and RV for 5+ years. Jerry's information and advice are spot on.
Not a lot of earth shattering ideas here that I haven't read elsewhere, but picked up a few new ideas here, which made it worth it. Plus it was fun and easy reading too. As an ebook, I feel the author could do a few updates for the book though as there is new information to add.
We have been living in our RV full time for a year, but not on the road yet. We have roadblocks that need to be taken care of. This book has shed lights on how we can remove these roadblocks and get our rig on the road. We have a big country that needs to be seen, explored, and appreciated what we have in the USA.
I just read all this book, start to finish, in one sitting. I found it informative and helpful in many aspects. I am not planning to live full-time in an RV but to do a circuitous route around the US visiting family. This book helped a great deal in my planning.
I love the easy flow of information. I read this book from start to finish . It gave me new ideas, ease my fears and it gave me the motivation to start my goals. I can see myself doing this type of living.
There is a lot good practical information in this book plus links to much more. It is an easy read and well worth the time. The book covers much more than RV'ing on SS.
An easy read, filled with useful details to help you make informed decisions about the rv lifestyle
you want to live - or not live. I found it very helpful. We are not ready to commit to fill time rv'ing. When we are, this is the book I will pull from my bookshelf & re-read.
I would recommend this book. Great information whether thinking about RVing or already a full time RVer. Its an easy read chock full of videos, websites and other RVers to follow!
After reading this, I’ve decided RV travel is not for me. I still want an RV but will use it locally when my place is rented out on Airbnb. This book is a wealth of information!
I got this book via my Kindle Unlimited subscription. Will have to buy it now. It has far too much information and resources to simply read once or twice. It's a reference book to use repeatedly making and implementing the decision to be free and wander for years.
Although the info in this book is from 2016 it is still very relevant in 2020. I highly recommend this book if you’re on SS & need some reassurance on how to RV full time on your income.
If you have any thought of RVing full time when you retire this is a must read book. So much good information. I am looking forward to reading one of his other books. Definitely has me thinking about some additional things and groups.
Enjoyed this down to earth guide. We have already done many of the steps outlined in the book which was reassuring and we also took away new ideas and actions to keep ourselves on track.
Enjoyed reading this book. It may not be an exhaustive account but it digs into the basics. Many things to think about and ponder to help make the decision: "Should I become an rv nomad?"
This book offers a peek into RV living, especially for retirees on a budget. The many easy-to-follow examples and links add credence to the preferred information; if that info is not pertinent, it can easily be skipped. If you are considering entering this lifestyle, this is an excellent book.
