A moving story of one woman's search for God, truth and fulfilment which has led to a transformed life and has ultimately witnessed God's extraordinary healing power. Growing up with a strong sense of spirituality, Kate searched long and hard throughout the world to find the God who made sense of that spiritual longing. After catching glimpses of God in many cultures along the way, Kate finally found God and her life was transformed for ever. Despite a highly successful journalistic career, she felt there was a disconnect between her work and faith, which eventually led her to work for the charity World Vision where she is now the Chief Communications Officer. Kate has had some personal battles to face, including the loss of both her parents, the loss of a baby, and debilitating ME. She has recently battled breast cancer, from which God has miraculously healed her. Sea Changed encourages readers to recognise the unseen hand that shifts our perspective, alters our trajectory and lifts us up even in our darkest moments.
Sea Challenge is a great book written by Kate Nicholas. She was able to portray her family history in an engaging way. The author deeply plunged into a sea change of faith. By her missionary work he encounters God and everything in her life flows smoothly, despite her incredible battle for cancer. She was able to cope up life's challenges through strong willed and complete trust in God. If you want to read something that leads you to a renewed life and brings healing to both body and soul this book is for you.
This was an interesting read. Some of the sections of human interest such as Kate's childhood and the character of her Father and his illness; her mother's illness and her own; and her children, these are a fully engaging read. However, although I enjoyed some of her adventures and trips around the world and meeting her husband, John, I found the forays into eastern mysticism, philosophies and religions rather bewildering and not parts of the story I could relate to. By contrast, I was very interested in Kate's Christian faith and her work for PR weekly and later World Vision. I understand that Kate's forays into other faiths is part of her story and maybe helpful to other readers but these sections left me a little bored and confused. However, in all an interesting and perhaps rather alternative autobiography or memoir.
Sea Changed is a beautifully written memoir that conveys the wide range of experiences Kate has had through her travels, career, ministry and family. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about how God used her and spoke to her through her career, how she met her husband and how they raise their children. I was touched by her journey through cancer and her faith in God in the midst of it all. I highly recommend this book and in particular to Christians studying or working in Communication. It is a testament to how God can use our skills for His Kingdom.
A touching autobiography. I was initially drawn to it because Kate Nicholas studied at Aberystwyth University, but she travelled extensively before eventually becoming the head of global communications for the charity World Vision, developing a faith which grounded her and enabled her to deal with crises, both professional and personal.
Inspiring reading. What an amazing woman Kate is! Her search for God and the truth is honest, slow and measured. This is no Road to Damascus read - it’s a considered and thought through move from doubt to certain faith. And it’s filled with hope despite the many challenges she faces along the way.
Truly amazing story, took a bit to get into but very detailed. Sometimes abit close to the bone if you have nursed a parent through the final stages of their life due to cancer.
Kate writes with remarkable authenticity and integrity, beautifully revealing the compassionate and loving heart of God. Her journey through the trauma of breast cancer is both moving and inspiring, showing that even in the darkest moments, there is hope and a future. Her words offer practical wisdom through prayer, Christian meditation, and personal testimony tools that have deeply enriched my own spiritual walk and opened my heart to profound revelations of the Father's love. This book is a must-read, especially when paired with her first, Sea Changed. Both are treasures of grace, hope, and healing.
