Charlton Heston (October 4 1924 - April 5 2008) was an American Academy Award-winning film actor.
Heston was known for playing heroic roles, such as Moses in The Ten Commandments, Colonel George Taylor in Planet of the Apes and Judah Ben-Hur in Ben-Hur.
Early in his career, he was one of a handful of Hollywood actors to publicly speak out against racism and was active in the civil rights movement. During the latter part of his movie career, he starred in films such as The Omega Man and Soylent Green, which have a strong environmental message.
He was president of the National Rifle Association from 1998 to 2003.
The definition of a good book is that you wished that there was more of it, and boy, did I wish that there was more of this book. It's just a tiny little book of thoughts culminating with a public letter to his grandson at the end of each chapter. At the end, I felt that there was more wisdom that could have been imparted if the book had just been a little bit longer. Always leave them wanting more, I guess.
I picked this up at a free book thing because I thought it would be the kind of bad that is funny. It is not. It is the kind of bad that is terrifying.
The man actually says that Native Americans should be called Indians because, and I quote "I doubt that any tribal American Indian has a recorded genealogy in this country approaching Jack's" (Jack being his grandson. Because, I assume, his ancestors found an empty continent and Native Americans just snuck over the border later and buried some fake artifacts. Or something. There is some REALLY crazy shit in this book.
