When she was 16 years old, Heroine was raped and became pregnant as a result of it. Her horrible parents victim-blamed and slut-shamed her. They forced her to give up her baby for adoption.

Eight years later, heroine hires a P.I. to find her daughter’s whereabouts. She wants to make sure she is happy and well-cared for by her adoptive parents. She contrives to meet her daughter and finds out that her adoptive dad is widowed. Conveniently, he is looking for a nanny/ housekeeper. Dingbat heroine volunteers for the job.

After some time, hero proposes a marriage of convenience sexvenience, and she eagerly accepts, still not revealing her identity. After they have married and are bumping like bunnies, the chickens come home to roost. His lawyers advise him of his wife’s real identity. The hero loses it and kicks heroine out for being a liar, manipulator, and deranged woman. He is scared to death that her plan all along was to insinuate herself into his life and wait for the perfect moment to abscond with his daughter.

The distraught, guilty heroine begs and grovels to the hero. She shares her sob story with him and tells him she loves him. The hero admits it’s possible that she genuinely fell in love with him but without trust, this marriage can’t work . He wants her out. They concoct a story to explain to the daughter why her “stepmom” needs to go away.

This triggers the recurring nightmare the daughter used to have after her adoptive mom died. The hero relents and asks the heroine to stay because he “loves” her too but I think he loved his daughter and didn’t want her to go through more drama. You better believe he is going to have the heroine watched 24/7 and sleep with one eye open from here on! 🙄
