I'm left unsure by this book. I liked large sections of this book, in particular, the way village life is laid out, the impact of your relatives, and the local history. There were lots of characters, but the main ones were well drawn. And I have never read a book about witches in this time period (early 18th century). But, the 2 sides to the book (the witching and the political turmoil subplots) never really sit comfortably together, and the ending is pretty unsatisfying.

Barely worth persevering with, poorly written. If I wasn't so invested in witches I'd have stopped at page 1
