Młodzi chcą przekształcić półpustynne obszary republiki w krainę uprawy bawełny, krainę sadów i ogrodów.

Excellent feel-good soviet propaganda story. The girl protagonist is awesome. This book got me initiated to Uzbek culture, which is surprisingly familiar (to the Indian reader) because of the old silk route ties.

In my opinion, the writer, Sharaf Rashidov tried to tell his vision of the perfect socialist community. Where people come hand to hand to achieve big things for the greater good (very much like the concept of 'gotong royong' in Indonesia).

One thing that I really like the most is the fact that the main protagonist, Aikiz (and regardless of her gender) manages to convince, mobilize, and get all the respect she deserves. It goes to show that, there are no inferior genders, everyone's ideas should be treated with equal respect no matter who they are.
