You waded into the Waters and caught a glimpse of the Dream World. Now immerse yourself and discover what lies beyond the trees.
Recently released from a psychiatric facility after learning that his Dream Sight is not a delusion but a gift, Charlie Oliver sets off to accept an invitation extended by a powerful Dark creature and potential mentor to join his “family” of Sighted individuals. As his demon guides begin to instruct him, Charlie quickly discovers just how little he actually knows about the Dream World and the creatures who inhabit it.
While Charlie stumbles through his lessons and struggles to harness his natural abilities, Emma Talbot has her own struggles to deal with now that she’s been taken from the facility and placed under house arrest. Imprisoned within the same walls as the man she suspects of being an adulterer and a murderer, Emma grows weaker while her world continues to crumble around her.
As Charlie begins to tap into his dormant instincts, he learns more about Emma’s past and becomes increasingly convinced that he needs to save her. But what if the very prison that binds her is the only thing protecting her from what lurks beyond?
Erin Jensen is the Amazon International bestselling author of The Dream Waters Series. She was awarded the Bronze Medal for fantasy fiction in the 2018 Readers’ Favorite international book award competition. She also received Honorable Mention for fantasy fiction in the 2018 Writer’s Digest self-published e-book awards.
A part-time pharmacist and a full-time creator of imaginary worlds, Erin lives in upstate New York with her ridiculously supportive husband, two teenage sons (who are both taller than her) and a Yorkshire terrier who believes he’s the family bodyguard. Early on in her writing career, Erin vowed to get a dragon tattoo once she reached a certain milestone number of reviews. She no longer divulges that number for fear that she'll actually reach her goal and have no choice but to go through with it. If you'd like to make that happen, leave a review on Goodreads and wherever you purchased her books and she'll be sure to share pictures of her celebratory ink on social media.
Erin is a sucker for any book that draws you into its world, makes you feel for its characters and keeps you thinking about it long after you've turned the last page.
After finishing a particularly gripping series several years back—and mourning the loss of its presence in her life—she decided to create a fictional world of her own. Now, nothing thrills her more than hearing from a reader who loves her books and feels for her characters as much as she does.
This series has a very original premise. I enjoyed this novel and getting to know the characters better. What I like best about this is I'm never sure who to fully trust. It keeps me guessing and wanting more. This book did end with a cliff hanger and you will want to read the third novel right away.
'His skull and facial bones were the bones of a man, but no flesh covered them, just pure white bone gleaming in the darkness. A wiry tuft of black hair grew from the top of his skull and eyes darker than the starless sky searched for me through fleshless sockets.'
Dream World is the second book in Erin Jensen's Dream Waters series. In the first book, Dream Waters, based around a psychiatric facility, we met many interesting characters including the story's protagonist, Charlie Oliver. Once he discovers that he is not actually delusional but does have a second sight into the Dream World that most of the world goes passively into each night, as well as discovering that he is a dragon, he agrees to join 'a 'family' of Sighted individuals' and receive guidance to use his newly found power.
Charlie has many lessons to learn whilst trying to help his friend from the facility, Emma Talbot, come to terms with the fact that she believes her husband (the Dream World's Dragon King!) is an adulterer and possibly a murderer. As Emma becomes more forgetful of who she really is, those that love and care about her, battle in both worlds to help her survive.
Throughout the book, we are constantly asking ourselves if Charlie will tap into his inner dragon and save the girl. Is Emma better off within her husband's protective prison or should she face the horrors that lurk outside? Will Emma even get the choice?! There is not a chapter that goes by where the reader will not nudge closer to the edge of the seat or gasp with baited breath as more questions are added to the list, especially as the book nears its end. This book is full of twists and turns, shocks and surprises, monsters and demons, truths and lies. Do not be misled though, truths are subjective, one person's truth may be another person's lie, so what are we supposed to believe?
This story does not end here and you are sure to be left tilting on the edge of a precipice, waiting for the next book.
Dream World takes you back to Charlie a few weeks after his release from the mental hospital. He is unsure what to do with himself, and also doesn't know what to make of the invitation given to him in the dream world by David. Since his release, he's heard nothing from David, or anyone there, and feels like he's been left - again. However, some advice comes from a mysterious stranger, who also gives him some different things to consider. Charlie needs to figure out just how to help Emma, who is fading by the day...
This story is intriguing and will definitely keep your attention. You won't know who to trust, or what to believe. It keeps you on your toes and you will love every moment. There is no such thing as good and evil, Light and Dark. Things are always shaded by the varying amounts of 'good' and 'evil'. Something dark doesn't necessarily mean bad, which is something Charlie has to learn for himself.
The scenes in here, although each chapter is told from a different perspective, helps to give the reader a more rounded version of what is going on, whilst still keeping them in the dark until necessary. It takes skill to write in such a way, and Erin A. Jensen has perfected that skill, in my opinion.
As with book one, there were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. The scenes flowed where they should, and kept my attention. I would even say that this book is better than book one, which rarely happens. Most definitely recommended by me.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion *
For my first venture into fiction in over a decade, Erin Jensen's Dream Waters and Dream World were almost impossible to put down. The plot is as intricately woven as the characters' relationships, and the characters are as compelling at drawing you into their lives and their psyches as the waters and world they are drawn to and live in. This series is full of magic and mystery, seductively capturing the reader in a world that is so different than our own and yet, is it?! Many of us may remember the fantasy worlds of childhood, and perhaps even have a friend or two who's dreams and desires cross the threshold of our everyday reality. I know one thing is for sure - this series put a whole new spin on a concept I love - be clear on your dreams or you may end up part of someone else's. I can't wait for the third book to be released this summer!!!
As the title implies, this wild ride took me into a world that only exists in a nightmare that is far too realistic. Poor Emma, confused and depressed, needs help from all her friends. You will be amazed at what happens. The only snafu was my sorting through all the rules, regulations and restrictions for dragons and other creatures. Can't wait for the next book in the series. Thanks for signing both of my books Erin.
First of all I have to say the covers for this series are stunning!! If I didn’t already own the second book in this series the cover alone would’ve made me pick it up. Now comes the hardest part, reviewing a second book in a series without major spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read it yet. I will say that the character growth for some of the main characters was AMAZING in this book and there was NO second book slump at all. Erin A. Jensen’s writing just flows for me, usually when you have multiple POV’s the book becomes so overwhelming and hard to follow that is not the case in these two books. With both books once I picked them up I did not want to put them down. I am a very character driven reader and I have to have a connection to the characters. However Erin’s books are very character and plot driven which kept me rapt in her Dream world for hours.
If you didn’t read book one (I have no idea what you are waiting for!!) then I will do a quick explanation. The Dream World is a place “sighted” people go in their dream forms, i.e. fairies, dragons, trolls, etc. However in the real world “un-sighted” people cannot see dream forms and sighted people can. Did that make sense? So Charlie our main character in book one is out of the psych ward in book 2. He is struggling to adjust to his new role in his dream form. As he wasn’t raised by his “people” like he was supposed to. Basically he fell through the cracks and now he is being rushed through the process to save the princess Emma. I still feel an immense connection to Charlie, he is and probably will always be my favorite character. I love his candidness, it’s almost like he forgets to have a filter from head to mouth. Never mind the fact that everyone can read his thoughts which adds a completely hilarious twist to the whole book. Let alone one of his teachers is Benjamin which is probably one of the scariest guys I have ever come across besides the king.
Benjamin aka Benji’s character growth in this book is amazing. I can’t believe how much depth we get on him. I really was not expecting that, I really enjoyed getting his take on everything and how he became attached to the king. I loved getting to see his attachment to the princess and why he is so hard on Charlie. Deep down he really is a softy even though he doesn’t know how to process it on the outside.
I still feel a little uneasy about the David/Emma angle. However I feel as the books come out everything will be explained. I’m not sure how I will feel after it is explained, but that is okay. Emma’s pain in this book just breaks my heart. I really hope to see her stronger in the next book
See my review for Dream Waters, the first book in this series, because everything I said there applies here. And this book is that very rare thing: a sequel that is just as good, if not better, than the first. Loved every minute of it.
The story and characters were entertaining and likable. The grammar and lack of descriptions were a bit depreciating but allowed for a smooth pace. I'd give 3.5/5 if I could. A worthwhile read.
