To love God is the first and greatest commandment...
Devotion and theology should never be separated. Our devotion is inescapably informed by our theology and our theology fails in its purpose unless it terminates in devotion. This is what it means to love God with all our heart, soul, and might.
When God’s people know God deeply and love God rightly, they will be able to articulate and appreciate the gospel’s importance for themselves and for others. This book, then, is an expression of Central Seminary’s commitment to the church and to the gospel.
This collection of essays, along with a few poems and prayers, has been my daily devotions companion the last couple months. Considering dispensational fundamentalists aren't publishing good books at nearly the same rate as Reformed evangelicals, I'm glad this book exists. I question how much a few of the essays truly embody the theme of "knowing and loving God," but that is more of a quibble than an outright criticism. One final note—anyone who enjoys Dr. Bauder's "In the Nick of Time" articles will be glad to know that he is the feature author in this collection.
