Frank Plumpton Ramsey was born on February 22, 1903 and died at the age of 26 on January 19, 1930. Few philosophers of the twentieth century have influenced the sciences as much as Ramsey. He did pioneering work in pure mathematics, logic, economics, statistics, probability theory, decision theory, and cognitive psychology. He also did groundbreaking work in epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of mathematics, metaphysics, and semantics. And all this was accomplished before the age of twenty-seven. His work in metaphysics, however, has not really received the attention it deserves. The essays published in this volume are all, in one way or another, inspired by Ramsey's ontology, or better, by the ontological questions discussed, problems solved and methods developed in some of his celebrated papers.
Nils-Eric Sahlin is professor of philosophy at the University of Lund, Sweden and one of the most famous specialists for the philosophy and mathematics of Ramsey.
