'A very clever and fun way to help children to remember numbers. Highly recommended!'
-Wishing Shelf Book Review, England-
Numbers are my friends!
Numbers are my family!
And learning their names is "funtastic"!
Finally, after quietly observing for hundreds of years, Numbers have arisen and have come to the aid of thousands and millions of children who need help learning their numbers 0-10. Their mission? To help children connect their number names to the correct number symbol! Too many times have they seen children confused, sad, discouraged, and frustrated when faced with this momentous challenge. Too often have they seen parents wring their hands, scratch their heads, and, in desperation, stick numbers everywhere hoping that will work. They even saw a parent shout at their child for not knowing his numbers! Jumping numerals!!! Numbers could not stay put any longer. Jingling a story that will make them be all smiles, they have come to the rescue of downcast children and crying parents. Truly, what could be nestled inside The Number Story?

Choosing just the right props and costumes, they create a jingle to help children remember the specific features of each number. In The Number Story 2, Numbers introduce children to the next step of number counting. Still donning on their specific attires, Numbers ease children into the 1-to1 correspondence of counting--Numbers are used for counting. Books 3 & 4: Numbers Introduced Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen and the Teens
Q: What inspired you to write the Number Story books?
A: I have many stories I have worked on over the years. And I do hope to get them published someday, but I am in no hurry. Regarding the Number Story series, I truly enjoyed creating, drawing, and writing them. My sons are my inspiration for the idea, especially my third son. He was three and a half and wanting to learn his numbers, struggling too. I just wanted to help him and make the whole learning process enjoyable and memorable. Learning should be fun both for the child and the moms and dads teaching the child.
Q: How does your Number Story stand out from the thousands of books that teach numbers?
A: I do believe the Number Story is truly unique and special in its approach in teaching little children numbers. Being and mom and raising children, I have collected al lot of books over the years. We have our own library with good, good books. We have a lot of books that teach numbers as well. However, none of the books, None, aim to help children connect the number picture with the number name. I like Richard Scarry's books on numbers, Thomas the Trains books teaching numbers, but they are all the same. There is a picture of one with one train. There is a picture of two with two trains. They don't truly connect the numerical symbol and the name for the child.
Q: You have four sons, right? And the youngest is one. When do you have the time to sit down and write?
A: Oh… Life is busy but a joy. I always remind myself that my first priority is my family: taking care of my children, teaching, cooking, cleaning, spending time as a family. I carve out the time for my writing at night or in the early hours of the morning. Somedays, I don't even have the energy to work on my writing projects. But I am happy I have something to look forward to when I have a bit of time just for myself.
Q: What do you hope for your books?
A: I think I am like all other authors. I do want my book to be well known and loved. For the Number Story series, I do hope that the winds will carry the book to all little children who are wanting and ready to learn their numbers. I just imagine their faces lighting up when they connect the dots… I do wish parents could send me emails and letters telling me what they thought about the Number Stories.
Q: Have you aspired to become an author?
A: (chuckle) I believe life comes with its own surprises, good surprises. Like children… You don't know, you can't plan for having a certain number of children. I am not talking about family planning. I am just talking about how life has a way of doing things its own way. I never never imagined of becoming an author of a book. I just loved to write for my children. When Number Story was published, I remember my husband telling me that I am now an author, and I was stunned. Me an author! That is unheard of!! Really?!! I am just thankful to be able to write and share my stories with my family and many other families as well.

The rhyming also helps.’ Primary school teacher, aged 47 ‘Worked well with my younger children (3 – 4 yr olds). They loved the drawings. ‘Eight is rollercoaster rails’ seemed to be the favourite. Perhaps suggested lesson plans might be helpful to put in the back. Also, the author could offer cards to help the children learn the different numbers.’ Teacher, aged 29 ‘So many fun things for children to enjoy, all helping to encourage them to learn to count. Good balance of empty space and illustration. Also, not too long so the child is not overwhelmed.’ Primary school teacher and literacy coordinator, aged 56 ‘My children loved this little book.’ Parent, aged 36
