This book takes you into ancient Mexico and varying areas which could be the site and center of the Nephite civilization which was destroyed about 421 AD. Using archeological information the book looks for possible sights of the record repository of this once grate people. The book chronicles the Olmec (Jaredite) downfall as well as the Nephite (part of the Mesoamerican) downfall, and has maps and charts and a vast wealth of historical and archeological sites and information. Archeology in general needs to be looked at like shooting a shot gun. Most of the pellets fall on the bull’s-eye but some few fall on the outside. Archeology works by placing together as many of the facts as can be discovered and drawing conclusions and tying the dots together. I do not agree with every conclusion he draws but I feel the vast majority of the book falls right on target. The things I disagree with are only a few and I really loved the book and have read it twice and will read it again. It is well written, well documented, and for its information alone it is worth more than five stars. I gained insights I never had before!

I picked this up on a whim. As this book is 40 years out of date, I approached it with the idea that there may have been more archaeological findings and theories and strings to tie it all together differently now. But I found this book to be well written and researched. Palmer puts forth a list of criteria gathered from the Book of Mormon and also geographical and archaeological and cultural aspects needed for the Hill Cumorah. I found his reasonings and conclusions to be well thought out and evidences used to form them well documented. A lot of it makes sense. Can’t say I’m 100% with everything, but my general understanding and conclusions before reading this already aligned with the Limited Tehuantepec approach.

This is a hardback version of the book. It's subtitle is "New Evidence for the Book of Mormon from Ancient Mexico". Unfortunately the author is looking in the wrong place. These people have a backwards mentality. They first find the place then they try to fit the Book of Mormon into it. Shouldn't we first learn what the Book of Mormon says and they try to find the place?
