The amaNazaretha, or Church of Nazareth, was founded within the Zulu society by Isaiah Shembe and his two sons. (Oral histories of Shembe's life and teachings make up the first three volumes of this series.) The present volume contains scholarly translations from the Zulu by Becken (a missionary) and Zungu (African language and literature, U. of Durban-Westville). The texts include hymns and sermons attributed to Shembe; the revived law of Johannes Galilee Shembe; and the Book of the birth of the Prophet Shembe . This volume will be of interest to historians of African Pentecostal religions. It is not indexed. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
