J. H. Bardwell was born with stories in his heart and a pencil in his hand. To this day, he retains an odd black birthmark on his neck where he says the pencil poked him as they both left the womb. Raised in the shadow of the Blue Ridge mountains, the young man fled to see the rest of the country before the ink dried on his high school diploma.
Besides writing engrossing works of fiction, the author also enjoys aquaponics, making cheese, gardening, performing theater, and wood crafts. When not writing fiction or enjoying his hobbies, J. H. Bardwell works at a university in mid-Atlantic America where he teaches students to think critically and question everything. Then he teaches them to write. He keeps his degrees skinned and mounted on the back wall.
Mixed feelings. This book gives me mixed feelings. Is it just a simple story about life and love? About forgetting and forgiving? About our domestic lives and the magic hidden within? Or is this book a clever work of art?
Love is deep within us. It's in the little things. It's the smile after a long day. It's the extra squeeze in your hand. It's giving you the last piece of cake. It's asking how you really feel. It's the things in daily life we sometimes take for granted.
Tales of Lost Love contains short stories. The daily, ordinary lives of us. It's about you and me.
"My heart is like a rose untimely nipped, whose petals drop without your sweet embrace, In dreams I gather petals, while pining for your body, soul, and face. Your heart is like a molten metal forge, Your inner embers - glowing, they engorge, and spend my muscle fibers till I'm broke, We find ourselves alone and plucked apart, so many stale and miserable days. Behold I send raw morsels of my heart, to clutch against your bosom's fiery braise, My love, I promise this: My fluency is potent when we kiss.
I enjoyed this short story and my rating isn't higher, because the story was too short. Overall a clever book and it makes you think about ordinary life and the hidden magic within.

Interesting writing, I quite enjoyed it. The poems were beautiful, each of the stories is written in a completely different voice, I find that fascinating. Amazing work.
Nice read. I couldn't relate much to the first stories, but the last ones were better. I really liked the poem "ROSE PETALS". Many thanks to Twigboat Press for the ARC.
