Logan Douglas was bored. Everyone seemed to have something to do, a purpose, except him, and he didn’t know what to do about it. He needed to get out of town or get a life before he killed somebody. And if Mason made one more snide remark about him being available because he didn’t have anything better to do it was gonna be him.

Charlie Stone knew the meaning of being overworked and underpaid. That was the story of her life. If she hadn’t needed what little pay she got from the nursing home, she’d have quit a long time ago. Now, the police were shutting the place down and she had nowhere to go.

Logan had found his mate, Mary Shafer, when they were still children. They knew what they were to each other, but Mary had been killed by a drunk driver when she was only ten. As far as Logan was concerned he’d lost his only shot at love. One mate in a lifetime, everyone knew that. But what Logan couldn’t understand was his attraction to the feisty beauty, Charlie Stone. She couldn’t be his mate, he’d already lost his shot at that….

'Logan' is book five in Kathi S. Barton's "The Pride of the Double Deuce" series and this one is about as full of heartstrings as you can imagine. Read the blurb and you'll come to the same conclusion I did: two battered souls who need someone and something special in their lives. This storyline certainly gives us that in spades. When Gerard receives a letter from a complete stranger who lives in a nursing home explaining who referred him, why he was contacting him, and his concerns for not only himself but one of the staff, that immediately brought the Douglas family into the situation. Charlie has been kicked around so much that she finds herself working at a second-rate nursing home with horrendous hours, brutal staff, and low pay but she has a big heart where her patients are concerned. There's a lot going on in this book and yet it's very cohesive so there is no confusion. There's still the fated mate chemistry but Logan and Charlie have a much more romantic flair to their story than the other brothers up to this point which makes Logan just drool-worthy.

A Lot of Stuff!

There’s a lot of stuff going on in this book & not all of them are good. The bad guys in this story are just like Dirk was in 1 of the previous books; but this time it was a woman who only heard what she wanted to hear.

Logan had found his mate when he was young & still in school but, then she was killed & he never thought that he’d get another 1 until he met Charlie Stone.

Charlie was an overworked but very good woman; she cane to meet the Douglas Family when 1 of the patients at the nursing home had her mail out a letter for him. The letter was addressed to Gerard Douglas.

This book was very good in the plot & the sex scenes; but, as always it’s up to you to read the book to see if you agree.

Logan is ready to explode. He can't explain why, he just knows he's bored, feels useless, and everything is making him angry. That's not him, but he doesn't know what to do about it. Thankfully, Landon, Emma's Dad, or Mason's father-in-law, senses Logan has reached that point where he needs to hear the news Landon has for him.

Upon talking with Landon at a neighboring vinery, of which the husband passed away and the remaining family can't, or won't, continue the business, Landon drops a couple of bombshells on Logan. One of them being that Logan is feeling left out and jealous of his brothers that have mated. Logan had found his mate as a child and lost her at a very young age when she died in a tragic accident. But, it seems that this neighbor had a connection to Logan's mate, one Logan was unaware of, and due to this, Logan may have just found what he needed to calm his anger and maybe find some sort of peace with his past and a mateless future.

Charlie is in a tough spot. She hates her job, yet due to the actions and lie of a former boss, she has to take what she can get. The only thing that keeps her from quitting, besides desperately needing the money, is the residents at the nursing home. She knows something is going on, yet no one has listened to her. But when someone starts listening, things change for Charlie is ways she never expected, thanks to the Douglas family.

Upon meeting, Logan and Charlie are instantly attracted, plus Logan makes Charlie feel safe which goes perfectly since he wants to protect her. But Logan never once thinks she could be his mate, even when he receives evidence to the contrary.

Will Logan realize what Charlie is to him before it's too late? Will Charlie see that Logan is sincerely trying to get a second chance? Is Charlie safe? Is Logan? Who is so determined to harm them and why? Will they overcome all the obstacles and finally be able to start their HEA? Zach, as the only single brother left, has his own problems going on that he shares with the family. Can they stop the issue before it gets too bad? What will happen when he and his mate meet?

One-click now to read about the wonderful Douglas family. Follow along as this family continually grows in numerous ways. They may have a lot of hard situations, but they've also got an abundance of love that can overcome anything. Please keep in mind this is book five in the series and I highly recommend reading the books in order.

It's not very often that I read a book and tear up, but with this one I just could help but shed some tears for Charlie and the difficult life she has had.

**"No, Christ, you need more positive interaction with people."**

Charlie Stone is in a rut. Every time she tries to make something positive in her life, something or someone is there to knock her down. When her latest employer is questioned for the death of his patients she knows that she has to get away and move on. The Douglas farms are the last place she thought she'd end up, but they are the one place where her life can start to turn around.

**"But they can't, love. Because before this, you were just a woman that lived in my home. Now... well, now you're my everything. As stupids as that sounds,"**

Logan Douglas is trying to find his place in working with his family. He's bored and doesn't feel like he's contributing, and watching each of his brother's find their mates and have babies is wearing on his emotions. He knows he lost his one chance at happiness when his mate was killed as a child. But when Landon presents him with his deceased mate's father's will, everything will change for Logan, and just maybe he can find his place and get back in the groove of things. But Charlie coming to work for him will turn his life upside down, but make it that much better for him. If he can keep her alive that is...

**When she was in the house, his cat would snarl at him, telling him to find her, to take her, but he's been avoiding any contact with her, telling himself that she was nothing to them. But she was. Charlie was everything to them."**

Logan is feeling left out, he found his mate when he was a kid and she was killed before they grew up. Everyone is happily mated, having children and prospering but he feels like he is a fish out of water. As his world starts to fall apart he finds out the father of his long deceased mate, left his vineyard to him to honor her memory. Charlie is at her wits end, she is barely getting by and things are getting worse everyday. When she does a favor for a old man she never guessed how it was going to change her life. This was a fast read, well thought out, interesting characters and a good storyline. As with all the stories in this series there is danger, drama , humor, love and a sense of family that endears you to the characters making them more real. I really liked Charlie and Logan, they made mistakes but both felt that they were not worthy of love and the good fortune they received. Getting to see the other series characters and keep up with their lives was a bonus and leaves you wanting to read the next book to see what is going to happen.
I was given and ARC for an honest review

Charlie Stone has had a very hard life. Her mom is in a nursing home with a brain injury and she is finding it hard to keep a job to help pay for her mom's expenses. Just when all seems lost she meets Mason Douglas. He has a few ideas for her about a job and a new place to live. His brother, Logan Douglas, just inherited a home and vineyard from a dear friend and he really could use some help. Thus enters Charlie. She and Logan are attracted to each other but Logan thinks he already found his mate when he was young and she has since died. This book contains profanity and sex and shifter sex. If that doesn't bother you the story is great. I'm really upset because there is still more needed for Charlie and Logan and now we have to wait for Zach's book to find out everything, Really Kathi

Another hot sexy cougar shifter has found a mate in this latest adventure on the Double Deuce Ranch. Douglas brother Logan has another chance for a mate. Not very happy with the way his life is going, Logan contemplates leaving town.....when a beautiful human female catches his eye!

Charlie Stone is a hardworking woman in a dead end job. When she uncovers some evil doings at the nursing home where she works, Charlie's life is in danger. Can the handsome cowboy and his cat keep their mate safe?

We sure had plenty of excitement in this one....now found mate, babies being born, crazy bad guys/gals at every turn. I can't wait for brother Zach to find his mate in the last book in this series!

Charlie and Logan are two amazing charters in this story.

Logan is feeling not needed and lonely by his family, he is bored with his daily routine. This gets turned upside down when he comes into a plot of land via a will being read.

Charlie is a woman that has had a hard life and is needing a new job after helping out a friend.

This story was a great fast read as I could not put it down. The pace of the story was perfect not to quick or too slow which had me hooked to the very last word and left me wanting to read the next story to see what happens next to the Douglas family.

All of Kathi's story are a must read for all readers that are in the shift paranormal romance.

Logan Douglas doesn't know what to do with his life. He didn't think he had a purpose and if someone, especially his brother Mason, made one more snide remark he was gonna hurt someone bad or worse. Logan believed he had met his mate as a child and she died at the age of 10 meaning he would never have a mate.

Charlie Stone was overworked and underpaid at the nursing home and now the police was closing it down and she has no place to go. When Logan and Charlie meet he doesn't understand this feeling for her -- she can't be his mate, can she?

Another fantastic read by the amazing Kathi S Barton - would definitely recommend to everyone as a must read.

Fantastic

I absolutely loved this story. There was more of a romantic aspect than violence and intrigue, even though there was plenty of that, and that is what made this story different than Mason's, as the storyline was similar. Logan and Charlie made a great couple. Their personalities just meshed well. I also loved the fact that Charlie and Zach became so close as friends. From the plot of the story, they both needed that bond. I really looking forward to reading Zach's story, and future books by this author

Fans of Kathi Barton will surely love this book.

But personally I think I have read too many of her books. They seem to be interchangeable now. It is the same basic recipe: big bad shifter finds his mate. She is homeless, being chased by bad guys. Big, bad shifter rejects her, he is too busy or scared to mate with her. Something happens to her and he realizes his mistake. They suddenly love each other.

Am I being too cynical? If so, I apologize. That is not the intention. I will just refrain from reading her books for a while

Great story

Love the Douglas men. Logan found his mate when they were 10, only to lose her in a tragic accident. While Logan is happy for his brothers, he can't help feeling a little resentful knowing he will never have what they do. Then he meets Charlie. His cat is restless and he wants to protect her. You only get 1 mate....right...A fast paced and steamy love story. Murder, malpractice, crazy siblings, and babies. Can't wait for Zach's story.
