When the head of a leading women's clothing manufacturer hangs herself with material from the new hosiery line, people will talk. Especially advertising people. Especially when the dead woman was about to cancel a huge deal from which many of them would profit.
As creative director for Merriweather Sportswear's new campaign, I'd known Berry Merriweather three months. I liked her. And I was certain of one thing. She did not commit suicide. She was murdered.
Between Berry's tall supermodel brother, my romance with a New York detective and now a second body, murder is this season's runway hit.
Ad agency creative director Peg Goodenough finds common ground with Merriweather sportswear's charismatic founder Berry. When Berry kills herself, Peg has doubts, but the sale of Berry's company to a larger firm is important for the ad agency, and soon Peg finds herself being nursemaid for Berry's too-beautiful sister-in-law and sullen, teenaged niece. Another death knocks Peg for a loop, especially since she gets no support from her policeman-boyfriend.
Not a scintillating read but still created some suspense. I think this book is part of a series, so maybe I would have been more sympathetic to the heroine, Peg Goodenough (really??), who seemed to go from strong-minded to pathetically emotional somewhat willy-nilly, had I read the previous books.
