An Unruly History of the Readymade

Rate this book
The exhibition included 115 works from the Jumex art collection as well as other pieces from private and institutional collections, offering (as the title suggests) a novel and non-linear (disobedient, argumentative and contradictory) reading of the "the readymades", the ordinary manufactured objects selected and modified into art objects that the Dadaist and Surrealist artist Marcel Duchamp introduced in 1913 in the history of contemporary art. Close to 80 artists explore this theme that remains constant and that has been reenergized, rediscovered and reconsidered resulting in a complex concept that has permeated the social and cultural sphere. The exhibition was curated by Jessica Morgan, curator of contemporary art of the Tate Modern in London.
