I bought this book back in 2008 thinking it would be a good resource, especially in Sunday School. I have ended up using it for a Wednesday night survey of the Old Testament. I prepared a handout from it that eventually ran to 154 pages. While I did add some material from other sources, the text of this book was the primary substance of those handouts. It has allowed me to be able to cover a book on each Wednesday night. I have had some interruptions, but I have been able to get through the material in about a year and half. I am not sure how long the NT will take, but it may be over and out within this year.

What all of this means is that I did not just read this book. I practically retyped the whole thing for the handouts! I would say that I got my money’s worth with this volume. Speaking of money, I am almost sure that this was one of the books that I picked up at a library sale for a dollar or less. Funny, how such a small investment has rewarded me so well.

I will certainly recommend this book to some of my preacher friends, though I think it is out of print. I don’t know how many of them would use it the way that I have, but you never know. The information is good, though the writing style is not gripping. I suppose I could produce something like this myself if I were willing to really do all the background study. That might be a good project some day.
