The rich mythology of the Navajo, brought to life in the ceremonial songs that preserve their heritage and ways of life, are presented by scholar Gerald Hausman with the humor and power of a true storyteller. He describes the all-important creation myth and the role of each member of the Navajo pantheon before revealing the myths and lessons of the People themselves. Line drawings throughout.

it took me far too long to finish this, but I appreciate the effort. I sort of feel like I'm missing too much context, even with the few paragraphs setting you up to understand. I like that this exists and I found it interesting, but it felt kind of hollow. Maybe my assessment is wrong, but I am still happy he took the time to publish this. I think it's great!
I have read several Tony Hillerman mystery books and always wondered about the "Navajo Way". This book explains, in a minimalistic way, many of the different ceremonies mentioned in his books. I found it to be very interesting.
I have been reading a lot of mythology books lately and found this one listed in Amazon and decided I needed to get it. I am interested in the culture of the tribes around the Southwest. I am very happy to have this book on my shelf and in my heart.
