Solving a case can change your life Detective superintendent Ian Wilson's life is on a downward spiral. His partner is gone and he's lost the job he loves. Then he's handed a 42 year-old murder case to solve. The case file is non-existent and the trail is colder than the arctic. As he peels away the layers of deception, he discovers that he hasn't been given the case by accident. Someone is intent on destroying Wilson and solving this cold case might just do it.
I was born in Ireland and after graduating in engineering and business I decided that I wanted to see the world. With Shell International Petroeum and the National Iranian Oil Company I worked in England, Holland and Iran. As an international diplomat I lived in Belgium, Malta, Kenya and Zambia. I had the great good fortune to have a career which fulfilled all my travel desires. Since retiring in 2011, I have been living on the West Coast of Ireland and I've been writing full time. I love reading and concentrate on thrillers and history.
Read this series beginning with book 1. Each book gets better and better. I've learned so much about the "troubles" in Belfast and how it can still affect the police force. You won't be disappointed. Fee Derek has humanized each character. I care about Ian Wilson. I hope there is a book 6!
These are not standalone books. You really do have to read the series - each book leads into the next.
DCI Wilson is almost too good to be true, although he does have his faults, they aren't enough to make you dislike him, in fact I find myself rooting for him constantly.
As an American who is Irish and have worked with the Irish Children's Summer Program, most of us still don't understand the hatred that is still going on in Northern Ireland. Apparently, Americans never will, as we pick our mates/friends without ever considering their religious faith.
What a brilliant read, once you start you don't want to stop. There is so much going on in this story, it holds your attention to the very end. The main character is tested to the limit when put on a cold case. Lucky Ian Wilson is no fool, even though he sometimes feels like giving up the wild goose chase. But when Ian makes a promise, its not something Ian forgets, especially to a dying man. But how is he going to get answers when he can't find information on the cold case that's leading no where, or is-it.? A Highly recommend read.
Having temporarily lost Derek Fee by taking a reading diversion, I was forced to look back at the first three (or four?) to become reacquainted with the ongoing action. This, as all of the previous books was superbly written. Derek Fee is a masterful story teller, and his novels share qualities with literary works. I won’t stop until I’ve read the last Ian Wilson novel.
I have read all series including this and found them all great reads. The troubles in Ireland are documented in these books, but the fictional storylines with DS Wilson investigating in the aftermath in as far as crime go and his personal troubles are all brought to the fore. The author has written a exciting series of crimes and suspense, also police and political corruption. If you enjoy storylines like these this series I recommend. Now to book seven.
Another Excellent story in the Belfast Murders series featuring all the usual characters. A great story line and one that tried to drag Wilson down . Once again his opponents seriously underestimated him and truth prevailed.Looking forward to reading more in the series
This was a great insight into how The Circle tried to deal with its opponents. But Ian Wilson was his usual dogged self and followed through to the conclusion. It had a personal effect but partly in a good way getting reacquainted with his mother! Derek’s work will be sadly missed!
Another great read. Page turner extraordinary. I couldn't wait to get to the next scenario. It's coming to a conclusion soon and I know he will get to the truth. What on earth will happen when he does? Roll on book 6.
Great series and I love the historical background. Only knew vaguely of the Belfast troubles but this fills out the personal intrigues in a very entertaining way!
Great reading excellent plot twist was surprising book couldn't put down. Excellent. I am Irish Catholic and i'm impressed how Derek handles this challenge
Intriguing mystery in which sinister forces conspire to make life very difficult for detective superintendent Ian Wilson. Will he discover who is behind it all?
I read this novel in a matter of days. The parallel story lines, past and present are intriguing. The historical references to "the Troubles" create a desire to know more of those dangerous and complicated times in recent Irish history. I highly recommend this novel.
I'm having a hard time writing this review. After reading this remarkably well written book, I feel it deserves an equally well written review only I can't find the words that will do it justice. Mr Fee is both a gifted storyteller and writer. Ian Wilson is a beautifully complex character (but I'm worried a little about his drinking.) Start with Book 1, get comfortable, and enjoy ride.
The whole series is a 5 star rating. I love everything about these books, from the suspense to the love interest. I sincerely hope you continue writing about In Wilson. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds with his knowledge of Helen McCann. Thank you for your immense talent and for sharing it in a venue that allowed me to discover it. I recommend this series to everyone I know.
Books 1 - 5 about IAn Wilson sheds a much needed light on the hellish mess wrought in Ulster by IRA, British soldiers, and the Protestant militias masquerading as respected citizens. The Troubles does not fully describe the horrors of that time.
I have read this series and feel this was the best so far. Conspiracy theory, MI5, Murders and assault all in this book. Someone wants to destroy Ian Wilson but he is to good of a Detective to fall for mind games and why is everyone committed to this cause. Do only a few people pull all the strings to our future?
