I was looking for a play to teach in my Grade 12 English class (that is all ESL students) and Foon's work was suggested to me. Overall I like The New Canadian Kid over Invisible Kids. The way the confusion of a student coming over and not understanding the language was written will create some really good text to self connections and open a conversation about the creating of slang and made up languages for literature. I felt like Invisible Kids needed to be a two act play to really get the message across and to dip into the issues of racism that it was trying to tackle. I think this would suit a lower grade better but though I felt the work is at times under developed, I can see areas where a teacher or a director could extend this and adapt the countries, races and issues to really connect with the current immigration views and issues in Canada. 3 Stars.
