Dr. Meghna Goel is a renowned Psychiatrist with an unblemished track record of helping the troubled get back on their feet. Up until now. This year she is about to face her biggest challenge in the form of seven individuals on the brink of self-destruction or worse.
Razia, a single mother hides a traumatic past. Ahmed is in prison for a heinous crime he has no regrets about. Jivan is burdened under the weight of the dual life he is forced to live. Satyananda, a self-styled Godman believes in justice, swift and cruel. Deepika seeks solace in drugs and sex. Shubham harbors thoughts of revenge and resentment towards a part of society he believes shouldn't exist. Sulochana withers away in silence carrying within her a terrible secret.
'Broken Jars, a Fistful of Dreams' is a coming together of five authors who weave parallel tales of love, betrayal, injustice and revenge. Issues that plague society are showcased with their inimitable style. The book also takes you on a journey around the metropolitan city Bangalore where the characters currently live and eight places in India where they were born and brought up.
Note: Best enjoyed with a cup of coffee or tea and an open mind.
A decent read. It gets complicated with too many characters and at times goes awfully long. However, credit to the new authors for weaving a book with new ideas. The small font doesn't helps either.
I received my copy(albeit extremely late) via Good reads and I am grateful to that.
It's a very interesting book that explores some topics often considered taboo in Indian society. It details the journeys of several people who have had to endure pain in the form of abuse or judgement or discrimination etc. It encourages the reader not to judge the characters and instead find empathy for them. The book is well researched and explains the various parts of Bangalore fairly vividly. Being in Bangalore, it felt like a story that was happening around me, as I was reading it. For a book from first time authors and one that touches on such sensitive topics, this is a great effort.
What happens when 5 authors come together to talk about 7 characters from different sections of life facing different difficult situations? This book is the answer.
This book critically analyses micro and macro aspects of life that is influenced by various actions that includes love, hatred, disappointments, breaking the trust and also about other things like gay, lesbian relationships apart from command, authority and power.
You need to sit in a peaceful environment and as mentioned in the back cover, a coffee or tea with the open mind is a prerequisite since some of them might come as a shocker to you. The book is divided into few parts namely - analysis notes, diagnosis, treatment course and results where in each talks in detail about the respective characters as being noted and perceived by Dr Meghna Goel, a psychiatrist practising in NIMHANS, Bangalore.
The book may not appeal to you until you give your dedicated time to it. If you are a social activist, you would immediately connect to it else, it may take some time to understand what exactly is happening. A must read for the youngsters which would let them know the brutality of the society and how to face them effectively rather than taking the drastic step or not being convinced that they needed consultation.
I received this book as a part of Goodreads Free Book Program.
Well, the book contain seven stories of seven different people. The book is well researched and kudos to all the authors for writing on such sensitive topics. Excellent stories- covered all the basis of story development, setting , characters and mood. The stories arouse a multitude of emotions. Highly recommended.
The lives of the characters move your heart , their mental state of mind , their emotions can be felt to the core. Leaves u shaken... the best part is the way Meghana shapes their lives and gives a new turn , a new hope and most of all a reason to live a life..... A Better Life
Authors of this book really need a huge round of applause for choosing an unconventional, but refreshing narrative of 7 stories. All seven stories not being isolated, have much to contribute to each other. Deserve to be a Best seller. Some printing mistakes here and there can be ignored.
Broken Jars, A Fistful Of Dreams is a good book. But the story of Sulochana was not very clear and how she killed her husband. All stories are merged with the doctor and woven very well and summarized after every chapter.
This book is answer to the people suffering from emotional and mental illness of Life. This book has shown the proper way to survive in this cruel world where people commit CSA. It talks about relationship, behaviour, anger and emotion. This book is again a GOODREAD....
DNF at 20%... Book was not properly design. Specially font and text alignment. Authors have tried to compress 500 pages of material in 280 pages.. Font size is less than 6...
