I’d only recommend if you’re looking to only speak and listen to Japanese. I wouldn’t recommend if you’re also interested in reading and writing Japanese, unless it’s alongside other resources which use kana and kanji
Best read when you have a stronger base knowledge of the language. If serious on learning the language, find a book that teaches kana as this only covers the spoken language. Wouldn't be my first choice in learning the language but will definitely go back when I learn kana.
I initially started this in 2009, when I started learning Japanese for the first time. Even then I thought it was nicely structured, if somewhat succint, so it's way easier going through it now when starting from a stronger base.
