The Would You Like to Know? series is a collection of books written to explain to children in the simplest terms about God, Jesus, prayer, Christmas, Easter, and the Bible. All six books come in a sturdy card board box and the books themselves are small enough for little hands. The books are paperbacks but made from sturdy stock. The pictures are bright, colorful, and simple as to not overwhelm and also correspond with the message being delivered. The message inside is short and concise yet packs a powerful punch in what is being taught. I would recommend this box set for parents to read to toddlers as they are easy to hold and not very long so as to lose their attention. I have a six year old and these books are just short enough to help him with his reading comprehension. Overall, I am impressed with the quality of these little books and I recommend them wholeheartedly. They would make nice Easter basket gifts or even Christmas stocking stuffers. They are also a nice addition to a homeschool or family devotional time. It is never too early to teach our kids the truth of the Bible and of God.

I received a set of these books for free. I was not required to provide a positive review and the views and opinions expressed are my own. The books have been loved and tested by my six year old son as well.

My review: I'd like the 4 1/2 star option....

In a nutshell: the books claim to be simple and clear explanations for children on the six topics presented. I found that they are just that and more than I anticipated.

They also include: applications for a child's life, quality images, sturdy, durable while beautiful books/box, and presented in a way that will aid comprehension of these truths.

Doctrine is accurate as well, and I liked the skills and practices mentioned like reading your Bible and going to Sunday School (in the Jesus book after the gospel message). They are not denominational oriented either, but content driven, so if the Word of God and salvation by faith in Jesus and forgiveness of sins by His death on a cross is central to your belief system, this series should be acceptable, and even enjoyable. I enjoyed them and believe children will enjoy them as well, my younger children like them.

My least favorite book was the knowing Jesus book, and I think it's just hard for authors to present the gospel to children authentically/accurately. It's not awful, it just rubs me the wrong way. The book presented a relationship with Jesus through "I'm sorry" on one page, and the next encouraged us to apply it in our lives/friends. I'm a nitpick- on the page after the book says "say "I'm sorry" for all the wrong things I have done," the next page says, "sometimes we need to say I'm sorry to other friends too." I think mentioning asking God to forgive our sins, is not too sophisticated for children, and then wondered with the language chosen if it would be confusing to children to see why Jesus forgiveness is so much different. But it's a concept that those who choose these books are likely to have their own preference, and hopefully will teach their children that Jesus rescued us from our sins and the wrath of God we deserved.

So those giving this set as a gift, might want to be aware of this. I didn't have concerns about any of the rest of the books presentation of content, I actually found them charming, delightful, and clear with excellent thinking about what simple content should be present.

I was blessed to be given these books in exchange for my honest review. Thank you Kregel Publications for the chance to review my favorite genre of literature- christian children's literature.

EXTRA info:

Construction of the Book:
The six books fit into a sturdy, glossy little box, and each book has a sturdy cover, and glossy thick pages inside. Each book has a "this book belongs to:" page which ended with "and I'm finding out about ____" and that is appealing to children, but also a great reading skill, building connections and repeating the concept of the book. There are also summary pages at the start (or end) of the Jesus, Easter and Christmas books, that build/reinforce vocabulary, connections, clarify, reinforce the question and set the up that this still matters to us.

Illustrations:
The illustrations are colorful, realistic, and child oriented. The children and bible characters depicted had great expressions and would draw children in, help clarify, are relatable, and build wonder in the reader/listener's mind.

Content:
The content is accurate, evangelical, and theologically accurate if you are a follower of Christ. The word friend is used throughout the books making them easy to comprehend and grasp for children and adults alike. Friend is used as a way to explain our relationship with God/Jesus as an approachable deity whom relates with us, and loves us. The books are twofold- they teach a concept and encourage the reader to apply this knowledge in their own life. Well chosen facts and explanations are included.

I’ve been taking my children to church since they were born. They’ve been learning about God, Jesus and the Bible for as long as they can remember. The have heard the story of the Nativity and Easter each year, and love to hear them over and over again. The lessons started off simple and now as they are getting older, they are asking more and more questions. The “Would you like to know? Collection” is a great way for my children to explore their faith on their own time.

“Would you like to know? Collection” is a set of six books for children to help build their Christian faith. Each book will encourage your child to explore key concepts of the Christian faith, such as who God is and How to pray in a way that they can understand.

The boxed set contains:

“Would You Like to Know About God?” – This book begins with an introduction to God and continues to answer questions that children have about God like “What does God Look Like?” and “What does God do?”. It ends with the assurance that God loves us and his love will never change.

“Would You Like to Know How to Pray?” – This book explains why we pray and how we can start talking to God. There is a sample prayer at the end the helps guide your child in a simple prayer.

“Would You Like to Know Jesus?” – This books explains who Jesus is, why he is important and how we can come to know him as a friend. It shares a Bible verse that is familiar to many of us, John 3: 16.

“Would You Like to Know the Bible?” – This book tells us what the Bible is, what it consists of and how we should use it.

“Would You Like to Know the Story of Christmas?” –  This book is a simple retelling of the very first Christmas and what it means for us today.

“Would You Like to Know the Story of Easter?” – This is a simple retelling of the Easter story from Jesus entering the city of Jerusalem, dying on the cross and rising again.

The illustrations in each are colourful and remind me of the books I used to read in Sunday School as a child. Each book includes a presentation page which makes it perfect for giving as a gift or an award.

Our least favourite book is the “Would you like to know The Story of Easter? , we found that it wasn’t as clear as it could be.  The book does tell the story of Easter and how Christ rose from the dead, but we found that the last couple of pages could have used a little more detail.  It says “At Easter we remember that Jesus died…and that he is alive forever!” We feel that this brief summary is missing the detail that he rose from the grave.

Our favourite book is “Would you like to know How to Pray?”. Sometimes my children get stuck on where to begin when they start to pray. The sample prayer at the end of the book helps them begin their prayer and then finish using their own words. I love how open ended it is, and listening to how my children talk to God and hear what is on their hearts.

“Would you like to know? Collection” would make a wonderful addition to any child’s library. Matthew 13: 23 says “ But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” This collection of books helps sew the seeds of God’s word in your child’s heart.

I received a complimentary copy of “Would you like to know? Collection” from Kregel Publishing in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Would You Like to Know?
The Complete Collection
By Tim Dowley
Illustrations by Eira Reeves

When it comes to God, prayer, Jesus, and the Bible children have questions and this collection of six books covers these topics and more.

Would You Like to Know About God? explains that God's story is found in the Bible and tells how He created the world. Though we can never know what God looks like we can see what He is like by the world around us. We are also told that we can talk to God through prayer.

Would You Like to Know How to Pray? explains that prayer is like talking, only instead of to a person we see prayer is talking to God. Prayer can be done anywhere and anytime.

Would you like to know Jesus? explains how God sent Jesus to the world to take the punishment for our sins. It also explains how we can become Jesus's friend and what that friendship entails.

Would You Like to Know the Bible? explains that the Bible is a special book because it teaches about God and how to talk to Him. It also explains that the Bible has two parts - one about the people of God and the other about Jesus.

Would You Like to Know the Story of Christmas?is a simplified version of the Bible story from Mary being told she would have a special baby to the birth of Jesus and the visit from the wise men. It is then explained that Christmas is a celebration in remembrance of Jesus's birth.

Would You Like to Know the Story of Easter? tells how Jesus along with His 12 special friends (disciples) went to a feast in Jerusalem. Jesus was betrayed and sentenced to die. But as He died He asked for forgiveness for the people. His friends were sad that He died but not for long because He was raised from the dead. Easter is the remembrance of Jesus's death and resurrection.

Each book is under 30 pages with colorful illustrations that correspond with the text portion of the book. This collection would be appropriate for ages 3-8 with help from Mom or Dad. This would also be a great family devotional option. The six books come in a small sturdy slipcover that feels as if it is constructed from board book materials - perfect for keeping these small books together in an easily findable location. The books are approximately 5" x 6" and slipcover is just over 1" wide.

I was provided a review copy of this book set by the publisher with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Would You Like to Know? Collection
By Tim Dowley and Graham Jefferson
I really like small book collections for children. There’s just something special about them. This one I found extraordinary. This group includes 6 books:
Would you like to know about God?
Would you like to know Jesus?
Would you like to know the Bible?
Would you like to know how to Pray?
Would you like to know the story of Christmas?
Would you like to know the story of Easter?
This collection covers the basic doctrinal foundations of Christianity. It is hard to express how impressed I was with how the authors very simply and clearly stated the most important truths. In the books about prayer and the Bible, they did a beautiful job of introducing how to apply and practice spiritual disciplines. All were written where a child could easily understand the concepts. The illustrations are colorful and not busy. Through them a little one could understand what was written even more plainly.
Each book is just the size for little hands, sturdy, and printed on glossy paper. The come in nice strong slip cover.
I only found one item concerning. In the book Would you like to know Jesus, the plan of salvation is shared. That was fine. It was the way the prayer to accept Christ was presented. This is a serious step and must be fully understood. I felt the idea was conveyed that you just pray a prayer and you are saved. This is misleading, as they need to know why they are praying this prayer. Children are easily led and must be dealt with delicately in this area.
Other than that I found the books to be exceptional in every way. These would make a great gift.

Each book in this collection is geared to helping the young child grow in his/her faith. The text is either written in simple sentences on a page or a simple paragraph. This organization is sufficient for the story the book is telling.

The authors, Tim Dowley and Eira Reeves, have done a wonderful job at helping the child move smoothly through each book. These paperback books can also be read to the child by an adult. Each colorful cover illustration is illustrated perfectly in introducing what each book is about. Examples, the book on prayer has three children praying and the book on Easter has Jesus riding on a donkey on Palm Sunday.

I feel each book sufficiently answers the question of what the book is about. These would make great gifts as a collection or individually as there is a place to put a child's name at the beginning of each book.

I received a copy of these books in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great boxed set of short stories for pre-school kids. The language is easy to understand for them, it doesn't go into a lot of details, and the illustrations are colorful enough to grasp their attention. For these reasons, I think this is a great addition to any Sunday school classroom.

However, I would like to say that I don't believe these would stand up very well to handling by younger hands. Yes, the pages are thicker than normal pages, and the books are presented in a wonderful glossy boxed set. I still don't think they are sturdy enough to handle the rough treatment that some kids can give them.

This is such a great little set for children. All six books are set up like small flip books with a soft paper cover, perfect for small hands. The books are physically thin, but the messages included in each one are substantial. Short lines of text throughout the pages help keep the attention of younger children and make it much easier for those who are just beginning to read. Would You Like to Know about God provides a quick explanation of who God is and what He does for us, as well as the story of creation. Would You Like to Know the Bible? allows children to learn about the Bible, how it's set up (books, Testaments, etc.), and why it is such an important tool in our lives. Would You Life to Know About Jesus? teaches children who He is, why God sent Him, and how we can be closer to Him. There's even a prayer included for little ones to ask Jesus into their hearts. Praying is an important part of maintaining a relationship with the Lord. After learning about God and Jesus, Would Your Like to Know How to Pray? offers a nice little introduction for teaching kids how to talk to God.

Learning about God, Jesus, the Bible, and praying are integral components in the Christian faith. Of course it's also important for children to fully understand some of the Christian holiday's celebrated today, what they mean, and how they relate to important events in Biblical history. Would Your Like to Know the Story of Christmas? and Would Your Like to Know the Story of Easter? help complete this set by sharing the true meaning behind both of these holidays. While you can individually purchase each book from this set, I personally feel that having the whole collection covers the fundamentals of being a Christian and would make an excellent starting point in teaching little ones how to be disciples for Jesus. I received an advance review copy of this book to read–all views expressed here are unbiased and purely those of my own.

Would You Like To Know Collection is perfect for every parent or grandparent to have in their home, and share with their little ones, ages 3 to 5, and just right for their little hands.
Loved that it comes in a hard cardboard container to store the six little books in, and the books are made of sturdy paper, so the little guy can hold it himself, and mine sure did. The pages are filled with what we want our children to know about our Christian faith, and made so they look at the colorful pictures that draw them in.
These little books are beautifully illustrated and draw your little ones in for a perfect message for them, just a few short pages in each topic, with the messages you will want for them. A must for each parent and grandparent to share their faith with those that are important to them.

Superb text. Great pictures. Wonderful collection that introduces the young child to the concepts of God, Jesus, the Bible, Prayer, and the two main events of the Bible - Christ's Birth and the Story of the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of the Savior.

Each little book is complete in itself and literally asks the child "Would you like to know...." and then beautifully tells the child about the main subject of that particular book. I like that you can build with each book on the concept of God, His Word, and His plan of Salvation. The child is frequently encouraged to pray and deep respect for God is inherent in the books.

A great addition to the book collections of young children. I highly recommend.

I received a complimentary copy from Kregel on behalf of the author and publisher, Candle Books an imprint of Lion Hudson.
