Lastly, images are included throughout to accompany the text, which act as good visuals to share the stories of Thomas Jefferson
"Thomas Jefferson & His World" by Henry Moscow was an awesome book. Before I read this book I was only a little bit interested in Thomas Jefferson, and the only thing I knew about him at the time was that he was the 3rd President of the United States. But after reading this book, I realized that he was so much more than just the president. Jefferson was a lawyer, a legislator, a scientist, as well as an inventor. He was an architect, as he designed the original Capitol building in Washington, D.C. He was also the governor of Virginia, the United States' representative in France, the Secretary of State, and the vice-president to John Adams. I also learned about some of Jefferson's accomplishments as president in both his first and second terms. This book told about Thomas Jefferson from all aspects, and was by far one of the best biographies that I've read. This book tells Thomas Jefferson's life in a chronological order, and goes a great depth into detail. One thing that I liked about the book was that included a lot of pictures, drawings, sketches, and paintings of various people and events, usually one or two every page. These pictures not only helped me understand the book better, but they were also fun to look at and see what things were like in the late 1700's and early 1800's, since most of them were created during that time period. Another thing that I liked about the book was that Moscow divided the book up into chapters based on certain topics that were involved in Jefferson's life. For example, the first chapter is titled "The Planter's Son" which tells about Jefferson's childhood. The second chapter is titled "A Student In Williamsburg" which has to do with Jefferson's education. The third chapter is titled "The Penman of the Revolution" which tells how Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence and other important documents. The fourth chapter is titled "Jefferson the Legislator" which tells about Jefferson's time that he served in the Virginia House of Delegates. This pattern continues for the rest of the book. Overall, "Thomas Jefferson & His World" was a great book. If you have even a little interest in Thomas Jefferson, I recommend this book to you. It has drawings and pictures that are sure to catch your eye. There are facts and figures that will blow you away. I found this book fascinating, and if you read it I'm sure you will too. :)
