TEKKEN: The Dark History of Mishima

Rate this book
One of the most popular video game classics is officially novelized at last. TEKKEN? has been sold more than 40 million units worldwide, filled with action and humor, loved by youths of all ages. A must read for the game lovers and readers for action packed martial arts adventure novels alike.

Jin Kazama, the new leader of the Mishima Zaibatsu, the world dominating mega-conglomerate, has collapsed into a mysterious coma. But that doesn't stop his father Kazuya Mishima from coming after him. The Mishima Zaibatsu had been Kazuya's before Jin took it from him in the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5. Intent on revenge, Kazuya established G. Corporation, with its lethal Jack robots, in order to declare open war against his son.

Hidden in the secret chambers of rural Russia under the care of Dr. Bosconovitch, Jin sleeps for no apparent reason. But even here he is far from safe. In a family where fathers kill sons, and sons kill fathers, it is Jin's fate to fight for his life. Kazuya's father Heihachi Mishima, aging but still greedy and ambitious, is also drawn into the battle. The events lead inexorably back to the deserted island where the Mishima Clan was first given their demonic powers, 450 years ago, and where fathers and sons again face off in an epic battle, winner take all. Ancient secrets are revealed, alliances are formed and broken, demons emerge, and fists fly in this action-packed thriller. Tekken favorites including Dr. Bosconovitch, Nina Williams, Eddy Gordo, Bruce Irvin, Anna Williams, Sergei Dragunov, Raven, and Lars Alexandersson all take sides in the war. Will the demon curse reign forever? Can anything stop the Mishima bloodlust?

This is the official translation of the popular Japanese novel published in 2011, and the first English-language Tekken novelization.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Nostalgia. That's the first thing I thought when I saw my favorite game being novelized. It's been years since the last time I played this game and I really miss it! I didn't even know it's a novel.

It's exciting to see the rivalry between Jin Kazama, the current head of Mishima Zaibatsu; The King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 and Kazuya Mishima -Jin's father and son to Heihachi Mishima - who lost in the tournament making him the former head of the Mishima Zaibatsu and current head of G. Corporation in which he uses against his son. The story begins when Jin passed out for no reason and was taken to Russia for Dr. Bosconovitch to determine its cause.

The Mishima family has Devil Gene and these men will not hesitate to kill each other regardless of blood. It was a never ending curse which ends up in war. Jin's life isn't safe, some people are protecting him and some wants to hunt him down. Each chapter of this book have different character appearances like Eddy Gordo, Nina Williams, Anna Williams, Raven, Bruce Irvin, Sergei Dragunov, Lars Alexandersson etc.. And they all have significant roles in the story.

The actions scenes were detailed and it's quite challenging to picture them in your head unlike when you're playing the game. Still, it's greatly written. Overall, it's an entertaining, fun and easy to read. Surely gamers or Tekken fans will enjoy reading this.

This was AMAZING.

If you've ever played to Tekken games, you really should check this out. The nostalgia comes flooding back in gory fights, amazing backstories and encounters with the characters you know and love.

Reading this book feels like you're watching an action movie and I flew through it.

No doubt a 5* read.

Great Read

I received a copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

This was an enjoyable read. Tekken is a video game that I am a fan of, and to read a story about a video game that I grew up with in a book. I really enjoyed it. In this book, the history of Mishima and the Devil Gene is told. Jin Kazuma is the son of Kazuya Mishima and Jun Kazuma, and the new leader of Mishima Zaibatsu. He possess the Devil Gene. Kazuya Mishima is the father of Jin Kazuma, and son of Heihachi Mishima, and the leader of G Corporation. The book was filled with fight sequences and was very entertaining. Each chapter had characters from the video games show up such as Nina Williams, Anna Williams, Heihachi Mishima, Lars Alexandersson, Eddy Gordo, Dr. Bosconovitch, etc. I wish that I could have read more about the relationship between Jin and his mother Jun. However, learning about the history of Mishima in a different way than the video game was great. I wish to know the history of the other characters in the series more as well. Overall, a great read.

The many liberties taken in regards to the lore of the games proper serve mostly as a detriment.
