I found this in a Little Free Library and since I collect all manner of Canadian children's books, I picked it up. It was published in England, however, so this might help explain why the narrator's favourite books are "Swallows and Amazons" and "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." Ummm, ever heard of "Anne of Green Gables"? "The Root Cellar"? And surely she must have some French-Canadian favourites as well since she lives in a bilingual family in Quebec. To say this book is outdated now would be an understatement, but it is great for a peek back at life in 1988 when a "portable" Apple computer was as big as a breadbox and the weight of an anchor. But perhaps the English believe that Canadians still rent VHS for their weekend movies.
