"You're reading whole book on just jQuery?", a friend asked me while I was at it. He's using JavaScript technologies ore often than I do and obviously seemed to think there's nothing more required than some online documentation and Stack Overflow. Well, I can imagine that one could go with these two sources and need nothing else. But that's not only true for JavaScript / jQuery, but for quite any technology now. I find the book form still useful, to concentrate on a topic and to get a clear progression of chapter that is carefully planned with a specific reader in mind. This book is a good one for people who are well-acquainted with www technologies and have either a programming background in c-style languages or have a little bit of experience with JavaScript. It throws a spotlight on the right topics, leaving aside too detailed elaborations on special-interest aspects.
The style is rather plain, which makes it clear and easy to understand, but a little bit boring, too.
