This book will provide an ideal introduction to debates in the field for students and researchers concerned with the impact of women's studies and wider gender issues on religion around the world.
This book is a hot mix of genuinely good pieces, a time window to what this field was like 30 yrs ago and some texts that are more personal opinions. Most of the texts felt very dated at this point in time, and even though some of these ideas can be found within religions, the religious field as a "science" has come quite far compared to this. The impact of new age could also very much be felt in some text, where the author's would rely more on new age notions, than actual facts. I guess mainly what this book did for me was making me happy how far the field has come in terms of equality and gender and moving beyond very old gendered stereotypes.
The anthology presents essays from a feminist perspective about Comparative Religion and in the sense of providing a basic orientation to the field from the point of view of Women's Studies does its job.
