Beautiful, young, professional women believe that they are being courted by a very handsome rich man. Little do they know that it's a part of his plan. For years, Alec has wanted to take one of their lives but ultimately pulled out, fearing discovery and arrest. When he gets an unexpected opportunity with a total stranger, he takes it, and it sets off a cycle of murder. Alec also has a brother, George, a former rapist who is more than happy to do his brother's killing once he has his own time with the victims. Thousands of women go missing every year in the U.S., and unless there is evidence to suggest otherwise, then they remain classed as missing persons. Detective Garcia believes that the women are being murdered, but she needs to find some evidence before the wealthy and educated brothers disappear. Set in San Francisco and its East Bay, this story will make you realize that even if you're very careful, very bad things can happy to you by the ones you would least suspect.
I write mainly dark, disturbing, sometimes racy thrillers. My other novels are murder tales. Someone told me that "I write with a scalpel rather than a pen The pacing. The perversion. The no-BS delivery. It’s rare to find an author willing to lean fully into the darkness of power, seduction, and consequence the way you do, without softening the edges." I used to be an English Butler for almost 25 years, and it was those experiences that inspired me to start writing. Raised in a small town called Shaw, which is in the north eastern part of Greater Manchester, UK. I moved to the USA in 1994 after meeting and marrying my wife Debbie in Redwood City. Now retired, I live just north of Redding in Northern California but I wake up early at the weekends to watch English football!
This book reminded me a lot of the TV series "Dexter" (I haven't read the books, so I can't comment on those).
"Prospects" concerns two brothers. One is a serial rapist, who doesn't like killing. The other is a serial killer, who doesn't particularly mind raping.
The story follows these two brothers (mostly the rapist, though) as they find women, get to know them, and then make them disappear after having their way with them.
I enjoyed reading about all these women, and how they were found, seduced, and disposed of. At times, though, it got a bit confusing when there were multiple women on the go at a time, and I struggled to remember who was who. That was probably intentional, though.
The ending is not what you'd expect, and I really enjoyed it. However, I felt it happened far too abruptly, and that there was more story to tell first. I can't be any more specific that that, of course, without giving away too much.
Still, a pretty entertaining story. If you like crime, or suspense, you should check it out.
