Vietnam veteran Roberto DeLaCroix remains haunted by two incidents that occurred during the war, even after more than forty years since his honorable discharge. When he meets Jesse Martinson, a Desert Storm veteran and now a deputy sheriff, at a post-traumatic stress disorder clinic, he is challenged emotionally by her saucy demeanor. Following an armed robbery, kidnapping, and attempted murder, Roberto and Jesse are asked to assist FBI Special Agent Nube Lawson in the apprehension of the two felons and the rescue of the hostages. It is during the pursuit of the perpetrators through the Beartooth Mountains that Roberto, Jesse, and Nube encounter and have to deal with past personal fears and struggles.

A Rabbi, a Lady, and a Gun is a compelling blend of suspense, emotional healing, and character driven storytelling that explores the lingering effects of war and the resilience required to move forward. James A. Mohs crafts a gripping narrative that combines high stakes crime investigation with deeply personal journeys of recovery and self-discovery.

What makes this novel particularly engaging is its focus on wounded but determined protagonists. Roberto DeLaCroix’s struggle with decades-old Vietnam War trauma feels authentic and heartfelt, while Jesse Martinson brings strength, humor, and emotional complexity to the story. Their evolving dynamic adds warmth and depth to a fast paced plot involving armed robbery, kidnapping, and a dangerous pursuit through the rugged Beartooth Mountains.

Mohs balances action and introspection effectively, creating a story that is as much about confronting inner demons as it is about catching criminals. Themes of courage, trust, healing, and redemption resonate throughout the novel, giving readers more than just a traditional thriller. The vivid setting and emotionally charged conflicts keep the pages turning while offering meaningful insight into the experiences of veterans coping with the scars of service.

A thoughtful and engaging novel that will appeal to readers who enjoy suspense with strong character development, emotional depth, and themes of resilience and hope
