Mr. Jeffery Roshell has done it yet again. To be honest I did not think that he could top his Thornhill High manuscript but he quickly put those thoughts to rest with his creative masterpiece, It's Gonna Rain. The book is centered around the lives of Martice, Marquise, Marilyn, Treyshawn, Andre, Ms Ethelyn and a myriad of other colorful characters. When the book opens we find both Martic and Marquis living at home with their very controlling and manipulative mother. Martice harbors a secret that he just can't imagine either his mother or his seemingly perfect brother to accept let alone understand. Ms. Marilyn is far from innocent herself but like many other mothers she attempts to project a perfect image to her children so that they will never know the mistakes she committed in her past. Overall this book is an outstandingly magnificent creation. Mr. Roshell took the backdrop of the church and the issues that we deal with in the African American community as a whole and developed a top notch story line that many others would find extremely difficult to tackle. He took a taboo subject that we still to this day very much struggle with in the Black Church and fearlessly cast a brilliant spotlight on it's importance in a mature and effective way. I have said before and I will continue to say that Mr. Roshell is a true gifted storyteller who has found his true calling in life. He is able to develop plots that draw us as readers in from the onset of the story until we reach the very last page. Not often will a reader come across a book of this caliber. When we find these hidden treasures it is only right to tell the rest of the world of the priceless gem. So this is me telling EVERYONE to go and get this book. You will not be disappointed. It is as if Mr. Roshell morphed his pen into an artistic paintbrush and created a literary world that will make you want to become a permanent resident instead of a temporary visitor. Kudos Mr. Roshell!!!! FANTASTIC Work!!! If I could give you a million stars I would do so without hesitation!!! Keep them coming I can't wait to see what you have for us next!!!!

What's done in the dark...
Isn't it amazing how people can be so judgemental towards others but have a full cemetery of skeletons in their own closet? Well, meet the Johnsons lol I liked how the author included so many relevant topics and issues in this story-Religion, homosexuality and the church dynamic, secrets, lies and everything in between. This book was well written and definitely a page turner! I can see myself reading this book over and over again. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially those that are in book clubs. The discussions and debates will be lively!

Good Writing

Some of the storylines in this book weren't really my cup of tea, but the writing itself was great. Being a product of a extremely churchy family, I enjoyed the references to old school preaching and singing. One thing I've learned in life is... we have to love people for who they are, not who we want them to be. And remember...... every person has their own relationship with God. It's not our place to judge.

Man the Lord definitely move when he wants too. Lies and half truths get you no where. Thank God for forgiveness. It's hard to forgive some one but even harder to forget. I loved this book. A wonderful read.
