I'm Anne Zoet, a freelance creative director for both technology giants and countless startups in the Silicon Valley. My passions are art, words, travel, the environment and animals—all of which came together naturally in the creation of my children's picture book, "Purrball Meets Burrball in Brazil." In addition to my human family, I share my home with three domestic cats (though sometimes I wonder if they're not just a bit wild).

"Purrball Meets Burrball in Brazil" is now available on Amazon! Apart from the kind peer reviews given here on Goodreads, Kirkus Reviews has said, "...the instant friendship between cat and sloth remains utterly enjoyable...this animal escapade should elicit plenty of giggles..." Fall in love with the cat and sloth heroes and get lost along with them in Brazil.

Please visit purrballandburrball.com and be the first to know about the next adventures of Purrball and Burrball! Kids are invited to find their inner cat and sloth: they can write their own adventures, help Purrball and Burrball out of their jungle mazes, download coloring pages and even a gallery where they can upload their cat and sloth art.

Purrball Meets Burrball in Brazil

Lives can change drastically when it is least expected. Hurricanes, tornados and in this case a devastating earthquake can cause buildings to crumble, bridges to collapse or even skyscrapers to fall to the ground. This is a story of what happens when one family is about to move to Brazil but an earthquake separates family members and their struggle to find the one that is missing. Purrball is Darryl’s best friend and he’s a cat. Darryl is telling us how he has said his farewells to his friends and Purrball is excited to come along to Brazil. He’s a little afraid that he is going to ride in the plane on the floor near Darryl’s feet. Going to the airport both Darryl and Purrball were tired so they decided to search on his map on his phone for their location. They had fun doing this together. Smart Cat! All of a sudden things start to shake up and the earth rumbles. Poor Purrball is separated from his family . He runs hard and fast but he is on his own but fortunately he has his mom’s phone and charger. He finds himself in the middle of nowhere and here is where the real adventure begins as he meets Sloth a cute guy on a tree and now everyone will learn the meaning of understanding and embracing differences. So, in the name of friendship he names the sloth Burrball because of his fur. Both are happy and the Sloth is thrilled with his new name. Trying to get a signal on the phone and texting a message. Hope he gets through to someone soon! But, the screen goes blank and now he realizes the phone has no battery. Poor Purrball what is he going to do? Meaning while someone was looking at photos but no one offered to call. But, someone took pictures of both Purrball and Burrball and you won’t believe where they wound up. Darryl and his family checked out the pictures and something changed? Were they able to connect with Purrball? What message did they get? How would they ever find him? If they find both of them what would happen to Burrball? Would he stay with Darryl and his family or will they drive him back to his tree. A sloth is a type of animal that lives in trees in South and Central America and that moves very slowly but our friend Burrball is quite astute and smart. He might not move at a breaking speed but he and Purrball make a great team. So what happens at the end and will they remain friends? You have to read this story to find out for yourself whether a cat and a sloth can become friends even though they are not of the same species of animal. Wouldn’t it be nice if all people would think like they did and become friends helping each other in times of crisis or danger or just because they want to be friends. Family love, loyalty, friendship, kindness and understanding come into play as an earthquake changes it all and a family goes in search of one of its members and two different animals just might find a link to real friendship.

Review of PURRBALL MEETS BURBALL IN BRAZIL by Anne Zoet

A truly delightful children's text-and-picture book, this is the story of a little boy's cat, Purrball, who travels to Brazil with his family for a year. Somehow at the airport during a tremor, Purrball, attached to Mom's phone, escapes into the jungle. There he serendipitously meets a sloth, whom he names Burrball. Together they adventure and eventually reunite with the family.
The illustrations are wonderful and the text is almost rhyming. This is a really enjoyable story, suitable for young readers and for the younger "read to me" stage. I hope it is the start of a series.

When Darryl’s family move to Brazil, it’s obvious that Darryl’s cat, Purrball, will come too, and so will readers, enjoying this book. Wise parents have Mom’s phone and charger on hand for the journey, so Darryl can play games. They provide welcome cat treats to keep Purrball content. But neither Purrball nor Darryl can keep smiling when the world rocks and sways. An earthquake is not what anyone expected, and the startled cat runs away.

Thus begins Anne Zoet’s Purrball Meets Burrball in Brazil. Bright, lively illustrations invite small readers and listeners to guess what happens next because…well, because poor Purrball has Mom’s phone and charger tangled around his leg. Burrball the Sloth (very pleasingly named) offers help. Then both cat and sloth prove wise and resourceful, passing strangers behave with bemused excitement, and the internet, so familiar to young readers, plays its own sweet part in bringing a family back together.

An adult might draw wise lessons from this tale, while child and adult together enjoy a fun story with a happy ending and promise of more, maybe, to come. The rhymes are a little forced at times, and the rhythm a little off, but the concept is intriguingly new and it all works well—the story reads pretty smoothly, and the pictures bring it to life, leaving readers satisfied and eager for more.

My guest reviewer for this little gem of a book is my 5yr old neighbor Catilyn. She was super excited to have me read this to her. As I read it to her, she laughed and giggles with excitement. When I finish the book , and asked her about she laughed and said , that crazy cat is to funny with his new friend. Who knew they would be buddies. I asked her if she liked it, and she nodded and asked if she could keep the book to read again. She hadn't been home more than five mins before her mother called me to tell me , she was sitting in the corner reading the book and laughing. So to write this review thru the eyes of the child , I would say this was a wonderful book, and funny, heartwarming , and happy book. It will be perfect for your little one, and I do hope there is more books about the new friendship of cat and sloth .

Purrball is on a trip with his family to Brazil. But when they arrive and earthquake scares him and he runs into the forest. In the forest he meets a sloth that he calls Burrball. When Purrball ran off, mom’s cell phone was tangled around him. Purrball has a plan to have Burrball help him to call mom for help.

This is the cutest story. It has wonderful illustrations and a nice rhyming story that is easy to read. I read this to a 3 year old and he was fascinated with the story. It worked well because he had never heard of a sloth and we did research on the internet for more information.

If you are looking for a great story for young children, look no further. This will keep their attention and have them looking for more information.

I received Purrball Meets Burrball for free from PR by the Book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the delightful, heartwarming story of the friendship between an adorable little cat, Purrball, and an equally endearing little sloth, Burrball, a friendship that develops when - during an earthquake - Purrball gets lost and separated from his family as they are moving to Brazil. Their ensuing adventures are told lovingly, in rhymes, and with humor, and are beautifully illustrated in wonderful colors.

There is suspense and excitement, and whether you are a parent or grandparent reading to them, or whether your little ones are reading it by themselves (and you hear them chuckle!), you want it to go on and are hoping for more of the story! Go read and find out for yourselves, it is great fun!

I love this adorable picture book for children aged 3-9. I already read it to my great niece who is 10 months old. Purrball and his family are moving to Brazil for a year. Once in Brazil, there is an earthquake and out of fear, Purrball runs away into the jungle where he meets a sloth who helps him find his family.
I was pleased with how well the cat is treated in this book, they even have him ride with them instead of in cargo. One is never to young to learn respect for pets. The illustrations are wonderful too.
