Comparable in lasting significance to the classics, The Way of a Pilgrim and Brother Lawrence's The Practice of the Presence of God, this book is the extraordinary spiritual biography of a homeless monk's remarkable pilgrimage along the dusty roads of India--a pilgrimage taken with complete faith and constant remembrance of God. Told with wit and humor, this inspiring narrative tells how the ever-humble Ramdas' pure love transformed many people who first mistreated him. In Quest of God is the first book in a trilogy chronicling Swami Ramdas' pilgrimage to God-realization. The next two books, In the Vision of God, vol. 1--The Continuing Saga of an Extraordinary Pilgrimage and In the Vision of God, vol.2--The Conclusion to the Saga of an Extraordinary Pilgrimage complete the series. Many readers find themselves in a lifelong love affair with this illuminating and transformational story.
I'd rather not rate this as doing so, regardless of the rating, would seem almost to defile this person's willingness to share in writing his experiences and profound surrender to God. The nondual devotional prayers at the end are very moving and beautiful.
Journey of a house holder to sanyasin, ( Vittal rao becoming Swami ramdas), i came to know Swami ramdass by he who initaited the guru mantra to Yogiram surat kumar of thirivannamalai. this book tells the story of papa ramadas's journey that he took all over the India, for his spiritual awareness.
There is a saying in india that when somebody is having problems or cannot deal with it in samsara will go to sanyasins. But that is not true, such that one should have a strong sadhana in knowing thyself and have strong will in spritual awareness can deal any problems within.
Papa Ramdas writes about himself in the third person and it’s the perfect way to tell this story of spiritual pilgrimage and awakening. The prose is simple, almost childlike, yet sneaky crisp and ultimately disarming. There is no other spiritual book quite like In Quest of God. I love it more each time I read it.
Such a sweet man! He is filled with the love of Ram and for Ram! He writes with such unabashed innocence and joy. This little memoir is a gem. Everyone should read it, if only to know what true devotion is.
I once heard a story years ago about how Swami Ramdas arrived at an ashram of sorts too late at night to enter and he spent the night outside, and he couldn't sleep because mosquitos kept biting and he was grateful because they kept him up and he could spend all that time on devotional activities...that's the kind of beautiful swami he was. So true, a fascinatnig journey of his life, travels, etc.
Want to know what it means to totally surrender? Read this one to understand. Unbelievable. Slice-of-life-ish account of one man's year of pilgrimage. Except that the man is extraordinary. He calls his journey 'In Quest of God'. Except that he is bathing in ecstasy the whole time. ... Awe and reverence in me.
